Wait what? Paul Dini didn't even work on the Killing Joke adaptation!CrypticMirror wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:19 pm Then Dini ruined it all with that Killing Joke adaptation.
Why do you think Calvin is a piece of wood? He's basically Obama as Superman.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 7:57 pm Better than the piece of wood that is Calvin superman.

since am more of a Marvel reader when I was younger "yeah 90" I don't know all the varies superman origin stories, but I seen enough depiction to know the basic. Saying that if I was going to create one I think I would had made it so his home planet was losing a war against Darkseed perhaps. (but he such a big level bad guy that overuse perhaps someone else would be better. DC readers should know if anyone else would work) and have General Zod be in charge of the defense. He is caught betraying the planet so the goes to the phantom zone. Planet is destroy cause of the constant warfare destabilize one of its moon that send tidal wave and other disaster. too late to escape parent build rocket for supe before the planet break up completely. or something along those lines. But would be my thoughts on an why supe people never left the planet. As they were hunted down and kill by there enemies and why the planet blow up.

I think a better reason for everyone not escaping Krypton would be just to say that space travel hadn't advanced to that point yet- that they were, in fact, only a few decades ahead of Earth at most.
Let's face it, looking at Krypton from 2020- whether it is the DCAU, MoS or whatever- they aren't THAT much more sophisticated than we are with only something like the Phantom Zone being truly "out there", and if the same thing happened to us there is no way in Hell that we'd ever make it off planet either.
Especially if, like us, Krypton seems light years away from even potentially habitable worlds. It's easy to point fingers at them when we, the audience, know that the DC universe is teeming with alien life, but it would be easier to forgive them if Krypton was, in the grand scheme of things, actually a rather primitive planet that is far from any major alien power, and it just being that we are even more primitive than they are but (in the DC universe) closer in range to other inhabited worlds.

IIRC, in the cartoon, Superman always had a closer, more romantic relationship with Lois than Clark did. Clark and Lois were co-workers. Superman and Lois were flirty. Superman/Clark was into Lois either way, but Lois treated Clark coldly, like a rival or a threat to her position at the paper. I don't think Clark particularly wanted Lois to "fall in love with him for his personality" (aka, as a man without powers, because the powers are a part of who he is, and his personality is already on full display as Superman), I think he just wanted Lois to catch the hints and figure him out.FaxModem1 wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 9:48 am No, look at JLU's Question Authority. Superman had a nice picnic, including champagne, I mean apple cider, set up on the top of the bridge for his conversation with Lois.
You can even see it in Chuck's review of the episode. The focus is on the chat of the Justice League relations, but the visual framing is that Supes just kind of gave up on romancing Lois as Clark, and is doing so as Superman.

So I don't really see Superman romancing Lois as him giving up on his Clark identity. Plus it's common across most versions that when Superman/Clark and Lois finally get serious with each other, the secret identity is dropped and Lois gets to know the real Superman/Clark, without any distinctions.
But I would agree that early in the cartoon, "Clark Kent" is what Superman/Clark wants to be doing with his life, and "Superman" is an occasional side gig. But by the time of Justice League Unlimited, "Superman" has become a full-time job, and "Clark Kent" has probably been fired from the Daily Planet due to extended absences. And that's not what he wanted, it's what people needed. But Superman still visits his parents as Clark. He probably takes his vacations as Clark. And he doesn't seem to be upset by the changed focus in his life.

I mean, when you are faster than a speeding bullet, you really don't have many excuses to not visit your parents every other day.
As a fellow son of a Martha, I assure you- they like their kids to stay in touch.

Well, there's where we run into an issue, Lois is essentially falling for the mask. Superman, for most of the animated series, is just Clark's public image.Cheerilee wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 9:21 amIIRC, in the cartoon, Superman always had a closer, more romantic relationship with Lois than Clark did. She runs into a similar issue when she dates Bruce Wayne. She really likes Bruce Wayne, but she hates Batman, which is again falling for the public image. Bruce and Clark even comment on it to each other, that she likes the halves of each other, and if you combined them, she'd have a perfect person.
Clark trying to date someone as Superman is just...sad. Because it'd be like Brad Pitt trying to date someone as Achilles. That's not who they are, that's just the character they're playing. It's why when the romance has been the forefront, such as in the Lois and Clark show, she fell for Clark, and the Superman issue became a sticking point of their relationship in that he was keeping it a secret.

Re: Superman - The Last Son of Krypton
I've never seen any screen adaptation where Lois is attracted to Clark Kent as far as when he purposefully acts clumsy by tripping over and dropping things, not aware of his immediate surrounding, etc. He doesn't comb his hair and his glasses don't fit.
I feel like I've seen her be pretty objectifying to him but Idunno, and I've seen her care for him as much as she does Jimmy Olsen. She undermines his effectiveness as a reporter, but it's not like you can blame her for being wrong when he kinda cheats at his job. It's an amusing professional harmless relationship in which the charade gets dropped eventually.
All-Star Superman movie that Chuck reviewed had the whole arc in a nutshell.

Re: Superman - The Last Son of Krypton
I was under the impression that Krypton was not initially made of Kryptonite - its production was a byproduct of the process that blew it up. (This is from an old trade I read circa 1990 that in retrospect I believe was made from the post-Crisis reboot). Jor-El and his wife were discussing the "green plague" that was afflicting their people, and Jor-El said that it was the result of a rock being produced by a process that would destroy the planet.Cheerilee wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 12:42 am The science around Kryptonians has always been weird. Like, they live like normal Humans on a planet made of kryptonite with a red sun, but they're living solar batteries, and if they move away from Krypton and soak up some yellow sun, then they become godlike (so yellow is better than red?), but... in spite of their new powers one pebble from their home planet can now literally kill them. How the heck does *that* work? Also, different colors of kryptonite do different things to Superman, and most of them are generally toxic.
