Space Patrol Orion(Raumpatrouille Orion): Ep1

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Post by CrypticMirror »

https://sfdebris.com/videos/tv/raumpatrouille1.php

The American yahoo who won't act like an adult is sent off to tool around the arse end of space, with a hardass female political officer to keep him in line, in the hope he won't cause too many disasters for three years; after which Manny Coto will take over...

What, just me?

If you like classic Trek and can put up with fan subtitles and no color, then check out the series online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJI4J92Btis&list=PLv0Ak2uwEb_1caaFBlBMz0-kU9bWEgo3d

I ran into this at the local Sci-Fi con in Tucson about 4 years ago and thought it was much better than it had any right to be.

This is actually really good, considering it's about three years younger than Doctor Who. Color me intruiged.

German people who remember this show always get hung up on oddities about the set design, like the clothes iron for a handle on the dashboard. But I really like the special effects, the lift off of the ship rising from the bottom to the ocean and on towards the stars, looks still pretty smooth to this day. I once heard it was allegedly filmed as an effervescent tablet being dropped in a glass of water, played upside down.

Now I'm looking forward to the next reviews. Episode 2 is my favourite.

There's another weird ST connection to this: Friedrich G. Beckhaus, who plays Atan in Space Patrol actually went on to be the voice actor of Elim Garak in the German dub of DS9 thirty years later.
He has a very distinct voice and I can't help but think of Space Patrol every time I watch a Garak episode.

As i said in the other thread concerning Space-Patrol - I'm sure, Chuck will hate episode 5.

I'm enjoying this more than i thought I would to the point I may go and see if i can find the DVD as I do like to collect old sci fi. I guess my tastes have always been a bit too American and British centric to go out and look for something like this so cheers for Chuck and the donor for introducing me to it.

I'm not sure, where you can the subbed version - I think: via Youtube - but if you're not in need of subtitles, I think, you can still order Raumpatrouillie over american amazon.

12,59 Dollars - that sounds very reasonable to me. Although, I'd recommend the German Amazon and Raumpatrouille Orion Kult-Kollektion (3 DVDs) - it costs 9,99 Euro, has all seven episodes and the movie - which is nothing more and nothing less than a re-edit of some of the episodes in another context. And apparently, it comes with english subtitles.
