Characters I Can't Wait to see Chuck Talk About: Dragon Age: Inquisition

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Characters I Can't Wait to see Chuck Talk About: Dragon Age: Inquisition

Post by Winter »

Vivienne: If there is one character that I want to see Chuck talk about it's Viv from Dragon Age: Inquisition and the reason for that is simple, she is a politician. I remember at one point I asked her what life in a Circle Tower was like and she responded by telling me how life for mages in all Circle Towers were different and therefore couldn't really give my answer a proper response.

And my reaction to this was to say out loud, "Yup, she's DIFFIDENTLY a politician". And there several other scenes like that where she says one thing but means another be it her opinions on Templars, elves and even the Inquisition itself. I remember hating Viv at first because I couldn't get her approval and her passive aggressive BS got really old really fast and because we had different opinions on how to handle the circle we didn't get along.

Then, during my second play through I decided to play things a little differently. I disagreed with her but framed it in such a way that made it seem like I agreed with her. For example, when I had the Mages join us as Allies Viv greatly disapproved of my choice but instead of outright disagreeing with her thought process I framed my responses more carefully. I made note that I felt that the Templars and their treatment of Mages was wrong but agreed that having a few Templars being trained to fight those who could become possessed wasn't a bad idea given the situation AND ended things by saying that Mages should be allowed to join the Chantry. And by doing not only did I regain all the approval I lost from her but I actually ended up getting MORE Approval then when I started.

And I did this WITHOUT agreeing with her view point on mages and the circle. I stuck to what I felt was right but did so in such a way to get her to agree to disagree with me.

This, I think, is what makes Viv such a base breaking character in the Dragon Age fandom getting her approval isn't hard, exactly, but it's weird and can be quite the challenge and makes you play politics. And by the end of it I not only had her full approval but she also choose to respect my choice.

I don't like Viv in the same way I do about the other characters of DAI but I find her to be an interesting character that is more complex then one might think and I can't wait to see what Chuck thinks of her.
