Re: MLP Thanksgiving Show
Maud quickly became a fan favorite. They frequently do a good job with interesting characters.
I enjoyed all the episodes when they first aired, and have re-watched The Best Night Ever more than once. Fun note, the "At the Gala" song was a tip of the hat to "Into the Woods."
I do like Hearthbreaker's note that even though the Pie and Apple families' traditions have a lot in common, that still leaves a lot left to be different.

Yes! Been waiting for this!
I thought Chuck did a great job with this. He really pegged Rainbow Dash well, better, in fact, than certain episodes I won't deign to name. I found it amusing to note that despite having two song-heavy episodes, Chuck didn't seem to take any issue with them. I take that as a sign of just how good the songs were, especially in "Pinkie Pride." I liked the connection he painted between the episodes.
As for my view on the episodes themselves: "Pinkie Pride" is a great episode, one of the show's finest. I know Season One and it's finale, "The Best Night Ever," tends to get short shrift from a sizeable chunk of the fandom, but I've considered Season One to be among the better seasons. "The Best Night Ever" was better, in my opinion, than a couple of premieres/finales I could mention. In any case, even if the show got better in (some) later seasons, that doesn't make the Season One bad. Again, opinion.
The Hearth's Warming episodes were decent though I admit that it always bugged me that they created historic figures who were kinda-sorta analogous to the Mane Six: Hurricane was proud, Platinum a snob, Pudding Head insane, etc. Would it have been too hard to make them really different characters? Isn't the point of acting to pretend to be someone UNLIKE you? Wouldn't it have been more interesting if Fluttershy was Hurricane, Rainbow Dash was Pansy, etc.?
As for "Hearth Breakers," it's okay. I like that Chuck, like 99% of the show's fandom, instantly took a shine to Maud.

Ah, you are that kind of person. What a confusing world it must be, where comedy and allegory are to be taken literal. Is it really that hard to understand that a message-show could hide a message in it's display? That the rock-soup is just a symbol for, say, a food you do not find particularly endearing or exciting and that people are serving you as a token of respect, because it's their tradition and they want to share it with you? I'm certain you'd make many friends when going to Scotland and you get served Haggis. Or you have a distaste for fish, go to Japan and get served Sushi. What a sad, sad life you must live.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 11:47 pmIf somebody invites me over for dinner and serves me a rock, they are going to spend the next day having said rock removed surgically.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 6:02 amAgain, the point is, that they may suck to you. Ah, it must be a Thanksgiving show. The conversation has descended into an argument.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go find the popcorn.

Re: MLP Thanksgiving Show
I think Applejack should have expected that Pinkie's family might be a bit unconventional. She's known Pinkie Pie for more than five seconds, and she's met Maude by now, too.
Fortunately ponies don't generally assault each other over being served a meal they don't like. That kind of thing gets one fired from Top Gear and makes one very unlikely to become an alicorn princess (and, as of this writing, Jeremy Clarkson is not an alicorn princess).
Though there are other cultures that are a bit more demonstrative of their displeasure in that "Yaks smash!" kind of way.
