Superman - The Last Son of Krypton

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to Superman 4, as at the time it was the most recent Superman movie and is notoriously bad.

I'm curious what you're referring to. I don't remember him bringing it up in the review.
..What mirror universe?

He only mentioned that it had been long time before Superman TAS since previous Superman movie (that happened to be Superman 4) so they needed to tell his origin story to get everyone up to speed. So he didn't particulary mention Superman 4.

Gushing about the DCAU voice cast is as old hat as it gets, but damn Dana Delany just kills it as Lois immediately. Managing that balance of being a fiery and snarky presence without being obnoxious is not easy, and she essentially gets that aspect right off the bat. Given that its a post-Crisis depiction of Clark not relying on the bumbling nerd characterization, it allows her to be even more pointed in her barbs towards Kent without feeling like he's bullying some poor klutz. The rest of the series of course gives Delany a chance to demonstrate Lois' real warmth beneath the sharp tongued reporter while feeling in character to what we see in Last Son of Krypton.

Considering that Dana Delany also voiced Andrea Beaumont in Mask of the Phantasm it would had been nice nod to that if Bruce had commented to Clark in World's Finest how Lois sounds like his ex. Then again Bruce was dating Lois in that one.

The animated series will always have THE superman theme

I liked the reference to the silent film Metropolis. That was cute.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this era was the Superman The Animated Series had their comic book series. And it was a rather good series too. For instance, having in-depth discussions in the reporters pool about how to cover a story, or getting to read Clark Kent's newspaper stories, with him saving the day as Clark Kent about Mannheim's shaky bridge and how it couldn't stand a freak event of two trains crossing it at the same time, seeing that such an event was coming up in the train schedule, and writing an article about it in Daily Planet, which saved a lot of lives, and he did it as Clark Kent, the reporter, not Superman.

Glad I missed that, it would've irked. Deliberate stupidity to make the hero look good (the Victorians had cracked that sort of railway issue).

On that subject, I think Andrea Romano, the one who did the casting of the voice talent, is a too-little-sung heroine of the DCAU. She definitely had an ear for the right person for the right role.

Stupidity? We're talking corruption here, sir. Mannheim is the head of Intergang, and the biggest man in the city not named Luthor.
