Just a small note: It's lesser-known but some German-Americans were detailed and some were forcibly relocated from coastal locations. The number was, however, a fraction of the number of Japanese-Americans forcibly relocated or interned.

Unless they spoke German and kept up the old traditions, they wouldn't stand out all that much. After all, in WWI, a lot of them made a pretty big effort to blend in more due to the anti-German sentiment at the time, so most of them were already pretty much fully integrated at the time.

Plus with the reference to Travis, I have to wonder - isn't the entire point of Star Trek that humanity is past the whole racism thing? So why would Travis know any different either? Shouldn't all humans be kind of innocent in a way? I guess my read wasn't so much that Archer was prejudiced against Suliban so much as he's a moron and actually believed the people running the camp that only members of the Cabal were imprisoned there. I mean, Archer did show prejudice against Vulcans throughout the show, so we know he's capable of it, I'm just wondering if that was the case here since it's been forever since I watched it for myself. Have to admit that the use of "white privilege" made me cringe, though.

That's what I keep on thinking is supposed to be the case. In TOS, we had Uhura called a Negress by Abe Lincoln and she didn't bat an eye because she explained that by that point, humans were beyond taking offense and yet it seemed like the humans of Star Trek Discovery hasn't gotten then...a mere 10 years before the TOS canon.

Well, certainly for the Enterprise era its half and half, these are people who literally grew up around utopia being built, and judging by the fantastic racism on display throughout the series, be that Manny Coto's nativism block or B&B's unintentional "heroes gaslighting in space", there's certainly a ways to go.

I still give Travis a pass as he didn't really grow up in society....like at all, and is really more in-bred than Tucker, so I doubt the issue came up a whole lot.
