Lower Decks - Second Contact

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Yeah. First pilot. They repeatedly joked about it. Even had one episode mock it.
I got nothing to say here.

SG-1 is a great show! There were missteps here and there, as with any show. Especially early on with stuff like that cringe line or all of Emancipations, but overall it was a great show!

I agree. Once you get past the first season it's pretty enjoyable overall.

They are the only shwo I know of that makes great use of clipshows. They usually still had dialogue that contributes to the greater storyline then just be some throwaway episode. Like season 1 had McKinsey reviewing missions in a clip show manner but it was done in away as a debriefing before deciding to shutdown the Stargate. Something for the season finale used.

I liked that one episode where again McKinsey is speaking with world ambassadors about the Stargate. Again a clipshow but had politics involved and had Thor bring down McKinsey a notch too.

Again McKinsey being vice president now briefing the new president on the Stargate right before Anubis is arriving to Earth. All leading to big showdown in the following episodes. And a little intro for Atlantis.

I admit that is exactly the sort of lame attempt at overthinking a badass line she would come up with.
That is a very good take of Carter imo. She is a genius space adventurer fighter pilot; but there is definitely a introverted streak to her as well. She is someone who is at home alone behind a monitor absorbed in some theory then she is at a party. It says a lot that in the alternate history episode at the end of season 8 she's this hot librarian type with glasses.
Or in other words, I absolutely can see her coming up with a line that in her head sounds like a James Bond one-liner but in reality is pure cringe.

SG-1 was great until it became Farscape SG-1. Although it wasn't so much Ben Browder (who was basically playing a less insane Crichton) it was sadly more Claudia Black who absolutely was not playing Aeryn. I don't know quite how to describe her performance. Natalie Portman in Garden State crossed with Neelix perhaps?
Plus the Ori were a less interesting rip-off of the Goa'uld.

I loved Vala. My only regret is we didn't get more of her. Seasons 9 and 10 were still great.

Mabus wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 7:04 pm So while there is some improvement later on, it's difficult to remove the stench of the first episode(s), as the whole point of a pilot is to be an introductory to the characters of the series. As the old expression goes "build a thousand bridges, no one calls you a bridge builder, fuck a goat, everyone calls you goatfucker". Only Mariner seems to prefer something else...
Oh yeah, because stuff like Encounter at Farpoint was such a great introduction to our heroes.

Sins of the past are something to learn from, not to repeat them. This excuse has become silly about 30 years ago.

Agreed. "TNG did it" is a lame excuse. TNG was made in 1987.

I mean it is actually relevant because Lower Decks, unlike many other shows, DID become much-much better.

So the TNG parallel is perfect.

Good storytelling existed then and does now.
