I seem to remember from the TNG episode where Barclay becomes a super genius that there is a whole race of big giant heads at the centre of the galaxy. They are not all evil... and if they can be taken out by a 23rd century BoP then they should be no match for Voyager but there you go.

There should be some convenient space highway leading to the core too. Since E-A somejoe managing to get there really quick despite being tens of thousands of light years away.
