What would you have rated The Quickening from Chuck's system?

For me, somewhere between a 6 to a 10.

A 5 maybe? It's good. But he's right, an interesting but not the most engaging tale.

Lol. Bit of a way to go to reach Voyager though.

I think it may be one of the best Bashir episodes in the entire show, and it's a really solid episode with great dialog in it, but I can't help but agree with the assessment regarding it as an episode in this series. I don't ever feel myself driven to seek it out for a solitary rewatch. Somehow, there isn't much value in it along those lines.

I think a 6 or 7. I liked the story a lot more than Chuck did, but at the same time not one of the best DS9 had.

He rated "His Way" higher than it, I believe. Yeah... the one with endless songs.

Chuck's rating of 3 seems fair. Ratings are relative to the series, after all. What hurt this episode to me was that it was just very unpleasant to watch. Like I was taking medicine rather than being entertained. I've rewatched DS9 several times, but I don't intend to ever watch this episode again. I'd sooner watch Move Along Home or even Paradise, which are also on my handful of never watch again episodes of the series. I do watch the first few minutes of it for the comedy, and that's it. Maybe if it had a B plot to avoid being so depressing for virtually the entire run-time it would be different.

As far as His Way, I just watched that with a friend last week as we make our way through the series. It isn't as bad as having five songs in it would suggest. One of the songs is background, one is Kira singing, which was fun to watch, and okay I fast forwarded through two of the early songs. What is more frustrating than the songs is Odo having no nerve whatsoever. Only way I make sense of how that was written was that Odo was quite young yet, inexperienced, and had went out of his way not to gain experience in the past. Also telling, I say to my friend, 'five songs and Odo/Kira will they or won't they stuff', and he was up for watching it. I tell him, 'awful disease thanks to founders, Bashir struggles to cure them is the whole episode', and he quickly replied, 'Oh Hell No!'.

What, is everyone just a drone who shapes their views around what he says? I've noticed many of the posters in this thread now share the same thoughts as to be disconcerting, or is this episode really that disliked among fandom? It's a very tightly focused, character-driven story. It deserved no less than a 5, because it is typical of the quality DS9 brought to its characters. That "he never wanted to watch it again" is something he didn't really adequately explain, seemed kind of vague to me. He has rated episodes higher that he'd enjoyed from a pure "technical standpoint" and to put it on the same level as "Paradise" seems very... unconvincing. It's a billion times better than "Paradise" even "from a technical standpoint."

I really disliked the episode long before I watched Chuck's review. Never wanting to watch something again isn't vague; it is how one feels, and feelings are valid. Calling people drones who shape their views around Chuck's is insulting and uncalled for. We get it. You really like this episode. Good for you. Many don't, and good for us. We all have our opinion, and that's great, but insulting others for their opinion needs to stop.
