This season does suffer from time constraints and subpar plotting and it's easily the weakest season of the Avatar franchise, but it's still watchable and fairly decent in my opinion.
I'm surprised they wrote this season so far in advanced, before season 1 even aired. I was under the impression they wrote season 1 as a one-off miniseries and then Nick ordered a second season out of the blue after the premier, thus explaining the rushed plot of season 2, and it's entirely in character for the clueless executives at Nick to do that.
Korra Season 2 Part 4
Re: Korra Season 2 Part 4
Honestly I hated season two so much that I decided to stop with the show right before the finale despite the fact they put it up to watch online that same night. Pretty much completely wrote off the show until a year or two ago due to how much I disliked that season.
Did go back and watch through the whole show eventually though and I did end up enjoying what came after it (although far moreso season 3 than season 4) but I still really disliked season two. Korra's just so unlikable for most of it, the entire plot is dependent on her being an idiot refusing to do anything to actually stop Unalaq, most of the side characters are completely useless beyond just filling up screentime because the season's actual plot is paper thin, Unalaq's plan makes absolutely no sense (you want to turn into Satan and cover the world in darkness, why on earth are you wasting your time starting a civil war other than to make it clear to Korra that you're not to be trusted?), the climax basically just consists of them wholesale making things up...
Yeah, I just need to stop right there, I could go on all day about what I dislike in that season. OG Iroh and Varrick are like the entirety of what I actually like about it... and even then Varrick's plot is just a waste of time because they start and end in the exact same position from it.
Edit: Although one thing I will give it credit for is in season 1, I really didn't like Asami at all, while in season 2 she became one of my favorite characters and stayed that way. Admittedly I think it's because she's one of the few people in the season who isn't unlikable, but I do think it also did a lot to give the character more room to breathe, even if I still don't think she actually contributed much of anything to its plot.

Re: Korra Season 2 Part 4
When Chuck lays it all out at the end the way it does, I get the impression that the writers essentially wanted to do a great deal of sweeping changing to the world of Avatar to keep things fresh and interesting, but without thinking far ahead enough about the potential implications those changes would have. The spirit link change is the big one of course, but for me the bigger one was always the severing of the Avatar line and what that meant for Korra's story.
Re: Korra Season 2 Part 4
I stopped watching season 2 around... episode 6 I think. From the reviews it seems it gets a little better, since Korra's not being all insufferable anymore, but still a bad season. I really need to see the last 2 seasons. I own them now but have never gotten around to it.
And I love Asami. She's like the best character. She's so nice and understanding and she gets shit on and has the least to do. Korra better improve and be worthy by the end, cause she certainly isn't at this point.

Well by that point season 1 would have been in production I'm sure, or at least hard to make significant changes to, so they still designed season 1 without followups in mind.ChrisTheLovableJerk wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:49 pm http://sfdebris.com/videos/animation/lok2d.php

I loved how it's unsure at the end how many of Bumi's stories are made up and how much of that he's actually been through. And not just with the destruction of the camp, but also the spirit fog triggering some kind of PTSD over cannibals. Just what kind of life has that man led if he was flashing back to cannibals?!
Re: Korra Season 2 Part 4
It still annoys me, because it felt neither unearned nor did it have meaningful consequences. It's also just way too much of a failure for me to swallow without major ramifications.MixedDrops wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 11:15 pm The spirit link change is the big one of course, but for me the bigger one was always the severing of the Avatar line and what that meant for Korra's story.
In a way, it's fortunate that the show basically ignores it, because it allows me to pretend it was not as complete as it sounded.

"On the one hand, Korra has the advantage of using all four elements, while Unalaq has only been trained in waterbending. Just because he's the Dark Avatar, doesn't mean he gets access to all the elements automatically, remember. Korra had to go out and learn them, so naturally he would have to learn them too."
LOL, Korra learning how to use elements. Good one Chuck.

korra is a great bender theo just cus she struggled with air bending in season 1 dont change thatCheerilee wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:54 am "On the one hand, Korra has the advantage of using all four elements, while Unalaq has only been trained in waterbending. Re: Korra Season 2 Part 4
I think the point was more about how Korra just suddenly knew them all rather than actually learning, like, any of them. Including airbending given the training to use it subplot was ditched almost immediately then she was just suddenly a master of it when backed into a corner.aceina wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 11:39 amkorra is a great bender theo just cus she struggled with air bending in season 1 dont change thatCheerilee wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:54 am "On the one hand, Korra has the advantage of using all four elements, while Unalaq has only been trained in waterbending.
