Or is it "Loud as a Whisper?" Tune in and find out.
Chuck is spot on for this review. The Enterprise transporting quarrelsome delegates seems like another callback to TOS. Kavi Raz is literally wasted in this episode. There's not nearly enough of the background redhead in her miniskirt. All around a typically dreadful season 1 TNG outing.

I literally watched TNG season one less than a year ago and did not even remember this episode. It was that unremarkable.

I agree. Nothing really noteworthy about this ep. Chuck's review was far more entertaining than the episode itself. I really liked his "mirror universe" idea.

On the contrary, I think that this episode is one of Season 1's most memorable, because it exemplifies, more than any other episode, the reasons that my dad and (6-year-old at the time) I thought Captain Picard was an idiot. What the actual F.

I can easily believe, watching this episode, that TNG went on to do four movies. Well, when you consider what three of those movies were like anyway.
I refuse to accept two such quarrelling races could ever be transported by the same ship though. They'd be fighting about who go picked up first, who got greeted by the more senior officer, which transporter room had the higher number, etc...
If you think I'm joking, then I have to tell you I worked corporate hospitality for a while and had that sort of crap happen just from clients. We once had to hire two luxury tour bus for two different groups to come from two different hotels and find a way to synchronize them arriving at the same time because the rich assholes got upset at the thought of being picked up from the same damn hotel because that meant one group would get first pick of the seats. Making friends with Russia would probably easier. Just bring enough vodka and hookers.
I suppose in this episode it was a good thing the ethnic guy was the one who died, him dying saved Picard the trouble of firing his ass like all the other S1 Chief Engineers. And it got him away from Wesley.
There is still from TNG S1:
The Big Goodbye
11001001
Too Short a Season (HAH!)
Home Soil
Coming of Age
Heart of Glory
Symbiosis
And
We'll Always Have Paris (That one shares its title with Harry Kim's own fanfic folder)
So that is a lot of awful still to come. Actually, I think three of those are pretty good. Well, two anyway and one sort of borderline.
Still, could be worse. Could be season one Enterprise.

I had to go rewatch the scene where they were discussing the food animals just to convince myself that really was Marc Alaimo. They distorted his voice too but once you know it's him it's easy to recognize his inflection. Oh dear, I hope he doesn't know all these nerds know that was him after he asked not to be credited. "Stop telling everyone you nerdy bastards."
I remember I quite liked this one as a little kid. I thought all the stuff with the ambassadors was funny - which probably shows the level of humor we're dealing with here. But even then, I didn't remember anything about the space ghost, just the warring ambassadors, particularly the scene where Riker explains they don't keep animals for meat anymore. The idea of synthetic meat that tasted just as good as real meat made an impression and this is the future invention that's nearer than you think that I'm most looking forward to. I'm just hoping it happens in my lifetime.

I am so looking forward to the Symbiosis review because there will be so much rage against the prime directive. I mean ... Picard manages to follow the letter of it while violating the spirit horribly, and leaves two worlds in utter chaos that, let's be honest, is going to lead to millions of people dying. (Withdrawal is not just "you shake a little and feel really crappy" it's "you might die without medical intervention" which is going to be hard to manage when everyone on the planet has it! And if the other planet is so specialized to make the drug ... are they going to be able to farm or hunt or anything quickly enough that a huge portion of their populace doesn't starve to death / resort to cannibalism?!) That's some Janeway level shit there.

Chuck, you're onto something with this Mirror Universe gag. Keep it going xD
...Wait is this a clever setup for Into Darkness? I'm all on board if it is, I just REALLY want to know. We all remember how long we went from Janeway planting viruses at Starfleet Command in Caretaker to Nemesis.
I like to imagine Gene being responsible for the force ghost shit this episode. Subliminally he just wants ghosts in his star trek, but then a staffer pointed it out to him and he gets red in the face shouting "NO, MAURICE, it's not a ghost IT'S DIFFERENT. We don't do magic on star trek!"

I actually remember The Big Goodbye, Binary Thing, and Home Soil being pretty good. Of course, the last time I've seen any of these was twenty-some years ago, so who knows.
Looks like Chuck's already done my teenage self's favorite S1 episode, "Conspiracy."

I created an account for this one. One of the funniest reviews I have listened to from you, Chuck!
Your bit about Russia is some of the best political commentary I have heard!
