I didn't have an easy time learning that Saru's species just needs to walk off their inevitable death sentence. You'd think they'd stumble upon that somehow.

So is Chuck actually reviewing a David Hasselhoff Christmas special? Every year I wonder if the Christmas episode is going to be the X-Files' "Fight Club," but I'd be fine with Hoff as well.

"Then we all woke up, and within a generation, everything from a truck to a toaster... was covered in solar panels."
I guess the producers went too literal in the final S2 episode when they had the freakin' Golden Gate bridge covered in solar panels (except for the nearby bay cliffs, because who puts solar panels on unused land amirite).
"It is not logical for a virus to kill its host."

Well, it sets up future story possibilities. There's the knowledge download, Saru's little tidbit that they don't have to end up as McKelpies, Stamis's journey for redemption, and Michael's journey to high school for remedial biology.

Oh, and Tilly has ascended to a higher plane. Well, for all we know she descended to a lower one. Or maybe just transcended a little sideways.

"It is not logical for a virus to kill it's host".

Not sure what is sillier- that she actually believes this, or that she said it about a COMPUTER virus.

I guess now we know why Spock says "I like science" later in the season... and why he never mentioned Michael.

My current head canon for discovery is just an experiment by a rogue Q to mess with Star Fleet beforw Piccard and that the res tof the Q fix it so that we never hear anything of it again.

Parasite, you're thinking of a Parasite, Micheal. Viruses infect and move on, parasites set up shop and linger.

I was thinking about that during the review. Makes me wonder if no one's ever tried to hide away Grandma or something and kept her from getting culled. It seems likely that at some point along the many hundreds of generations someone would try; Saru is special but he can't be that special or else it's just silly. OTOH, I suppose it's possible that someone did, and managed to keep it secret. Unfortunately, given how irrational we know Saru later becomes, it's really hard to believe that Grandma wouldn't become a raving activist and blow her cover.

Once again, the show's writers demonstrate a complete lack of even basic science knowledge. No wonder they have to resort to throwing in "Math rocks!" and "I like science!" quips, because people who think "evolution is a feeling!" have no idea what science and math actually do.

What did you expect. They are writers that focus on writing story, not fact checking supposed science that they are supposed to use. Even if it would be so basic like in this case that one doesn't need to be scientist to know it.
