this one actually does seem to have some good bones to it, have to see it myself at some point but it sounds like it does help advance and fill in things for the original series instead of trying put the series in a blender with magic mushrooms. Im wondering if discovery is like tng and ds9 it takes them a couple of seasons to actually get really good -tng had some good episodes but the first 2 seasons have some real duds and ds9 was very much the same it had a lot of duds early on till things picked up.

spoilers ahead if you didn't watch===========

Also i think that star fleet needs to really start revising regulations for things like this because i hate to say it happens more often these days. The situation of a officer who's mind has been graphed onto a klingon has an altercation with a crew member he has murdered, and was revived from the dead by mushrooms, makes me think of the entries in Red Dwarfs space corp directives. This kind of makes me think that those rules were added because of these specific incidents. So i think this calls for the creation of some sort of fan project to create the star fleet directive list we all know what one is but it would be funny if general order 359-b is in the event of an officer being returned from the dead having a fist fight with his murder, his current genetic identity being open to debate due to being graphed onto another being, will not be subjected to normal corrective directives. ==footnote, on account that anyone having to come back from the dead is using screwed up enough that they will need some time to work out how they feel, and the frequent failures of half betazed therapists has cause starfleet to realize that they may not being doing a great job of keeping everyone sane while on a long term mission.

I think describing Saru as "the world's most militant cow" is just perfect and should remain his primary nick-name.

I really like that for once, coming back from the grave is actually being treated like kind of a big deal.

Ah Discovery. It is like seeing a tangerine shaped lump in the bottom of your christmas stocking but finding it is just a lump of coal painted orange.

And it is an episode about the Defence Against the Dark Arts captain. So, kinda pointless getting invested there. And Mickey still exists, so fuck it. I'm out. Chuck says that Mickey is no Neelix, but that is only because Tilly already has that position. Mickey is more like....uh....Second Neelix. Discovery is Two Neelixes, a buttload of Chakotays, and a sprinkling Season One Enterprises. And no Picards or Siskos, or even Tom Parises. I'd even take a Harry Kim at this point.

Actually, I think I may be being unfair to Neelix there with that comparison.

And then there is goddamn Saru. And from now on the annoying character who is so offputting to make a twenty year series hiatus seem like a good idea will be called, "and X is an another Saru".

well i haven't watched the episode i just see the summary and from a summary it seems decent -im not totally sold on everything so far in season 2 but it looks like its improving in the same way tng did, hoping that next season will be when they hit their stride.

Though i have to say if they are going to do that give them the uniforms the enterprise crew is wearing. I just think the disco uniforms look stupid

I do find it weird a series best know for the phrase to bold go where no man has gone before, is no cowardly in place because it play it want to play it safe.

I just wanted to commend Chuck once again on his excellent song choice for STD. What a fantastic description of modern Star Trek.

Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
Welcome to the final show
Hope you're wearing your best clothes
You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky
You look pretty good down here
But you ain't really good
If we never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets?
The bullets
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets?
The bullets
Just stop your crying
It's a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying
It'll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying
Have the time of your life
Breaking through the atmosphere
And things are pretty good from here
Remember everything will be…

Saru reminds me of Dr Zoidberg with the exception of the fact that Dr Zoidberg is capable of occasional badassery.
