Who is the worst Captain?

Out of all the shows that Chuck reviewed, who would you stick with as the worst Captain? Sorry I can't put up a poll, but if I could that poll would be something like this. PS this is in no particular order, and I'm not putting Babylon 5, because those captains at lest showed some competency. but you can add your own to the list if you want. Sadly it's mostly Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, I mostly liked Star Trek, but in all the TV shows, these Captains made most of the biggest mistakes.

(1) James T. Kirk Captain of the Enterprise: The Original Series

(2) Jonathan Archer Captain of the Enterprise: Star Trek: Enterprise

(3) Kathryn Janeway Captain of the Voyager: Star Trek: Voyager

(4) Jean-Luc Picard Captain of the Enterprise-D: Star Trek: The Next Generation

(5) Random captain of the Star destroyers: Star wars

(6) Matthew Marcus Captain of the Resolute: Exosquad

That is pretty bad, though i'd say that comic book civil war Captain America is worse.

That's a tough question actually. Do I go with in-universe or out-of-universe? 'Cause I feel that you get two completely different answers using those metrics. I mean, is a Captain who suceeds in a badly written story really any better than a Captain who fails in a well-written one?

That is a hard question. When things like James T. Kirk is written well and acted well. (Mostly in the films) and then written badly and acted worst. (Mostly in the TV show) Or Matthew Marcus of Exosquad even written well was always and asshole, up to his death. And then there's Janeway, witch took how many seasons to fix her character from the huge mistake she made. (Mostly for letting Neelix on her ship) Jonathan Archer who with Janeway and Matthew Marcus who is the more bat shit insane Captain.

We've sorta trod this ground recently, but I voted for Archer because of his unique combination of madness and ineptitude. I might have liked to see the journey from Surak to Presidency. But what we got in the show was just, all over the map.

Gonna second PerrySimm's vote for Archer, at least in early Enterprise. He was like this ... homonculus of all the other captains' faults without any of their strengths. (I do hope I spelled homonculus correctly.)

Archer, I suppose, although its more based on second-hand information and clips (mainly from here), since I watched Enterprise a long time ago.

That idiot Marcus from Exosquad sounds like he's up their, even though I've never watched the show.

Janeway... Janeway is highly inconsistent. There are times when she behaves like a captain I'd be proud to serve under, were I in a military profession.

Then there's the time she murdered Tuvix.

Archer. For Janeway, I blame the writers of specific episodes for her foibles. She's inconsistent and made to say some incoherent things, but it's writers jerking her around. Archer is steadily bad for a lot of Enterprise.

Zing!

I'm torn between Janeway and Archer... Janeway has some glimpses of actual leadership and competence, but is still a hazardous person to work for, by, and against. Archer lacks Janeway's glimpses of quality, but I'm not sure he was as bad in terms of impact on those around him.
