I'm always going to have a special place in my heart for this review. Not because it's necessarily Chuck's best (though it is funny, I don't mean that as a slam), but because it was around the time I was re-watching this review just for the hell of it that the seed for the idea that would become my Voyager fic, A Fire of Devotion, was planted*.

What started out as just a thought experiment I'd created a pseudonym for, the more I worked on it, the more I found I actually liked working on it. And, for better or for worse, even though it's only 3/4ths finished it is still frankly the best-reviewed thing I've ever written. ;)

* This review + one joke from the "Shattered" review, anyway.

I do love that review - it's one of my favorites. Something about that "never bet against the house" bit makes me laugh every time.

It's funny how these things work out. Sometime it's the things that bother us most that become fertile ground for writing fanfic. The fact I'm still writing AOS fanfic three seasons after rage quitting mid-episode is testament to that.

Somewhat more closely related to your post, I have started writing fics based on Unexpected and Wrongs Darker than Death or Night. Both, especially the former, draw a lot on criticisms and observations made by Chuck.

Funny follow-up; I recently started re-watching Enterprise on NetFlix, and I found myself starting to think about T'Pol/Cutler. I hate my brian sometimes, because I do not see anyway I could write that story without it coming across as just a re-hash of Seven/Samantha.

Luckily, I've got my Mass Effect story to keep my brain occupied. ;) http://archiveofourown.org/works/113719 ... s/25459497
