Star Trek Deep Space 9: Paradise

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Star Trek Deep Space 9: Paradise

Post by thisithis »

When Chuck was forced to redo his web sit and I was watching old eps of DS9, I saw this ep Paradise, and remembered sfdebris doing a review of this ep. I remember watching this ep when I was a kid with my friend and brother and when the colonist decided to be on woman that tortured them, imprison them, and rule them, well all three of us kinda did this.

But Chuck was right, this ep was BS, and I really hated that woman.

Like I understand them sticking up for her ... out of Stockholme Syndrome. That ending should have been played as Sisko and O'Brien being like "Okay but like, we're gonna send some counselors to make sure you guys are actually okay, all right?"

Oh all Star Trek villains

Alixus is the one you let win?

I'd like to think she was... "Dealt with" as in Romulan way of dealing with things

Ugh, yeah. One can only hope that SOMEONE freed the colonists from her, and deprogrammed them.

It's like The Hunted in TNG. Picard walks away from a planet that's a powder keg, and just lets the super soldiers hold the government hostage.

I would love to see a followup to that episode where a chunk of that planet went to hell, and then recovered, with the people of that planet refusing an invitation to the Federation due to Picard's actions in that episode.

Yeah, although I've never seen it mentioned again. I always like to imagine that the star fleet Corp of Engineers team was sent out to handle this. They show up with a medical team. Then proceed to build a proper colony while the medical team treat their mental and physical injuries from abuse.

Six months later the colonists realize Alexis was full of shit and they now have a happy reasonably normal life on a technologically advanced colony where no one dies from bug bites or simple infections.

Conflicted on this one.

The ending is, as you say, BS... but that bit with Sisko in the box was so incredibly badass.

I don't think anyone will argue with you there, it's one of his defining character moments in my opinion.

I may be in the minority, but I kinda like this episode. Alexis deserved to be shot in the head, don't get me wrong there. I like to think she and her son both served life without the possibility of parole (damn lack of death penalty in the future). Still, in all likelihood, they were looking for planets to colonize, IIRC, so it's quite probable a proper colony moved in next door with modern tech and medicine.

I like to think that the idea of them leaving her device on was a bust, as O'Brien most likely blasted it with his phaser.

I thought about it for a second, and I imagined a bunch of Jem'Hadar crash landing on the planet because the device was on, then they went mad (no ketrasel white) and killed everyone.

If that's an option, I'd prefer one Jem'Hadar survivor who gets the dictator leader instead of everyone, with someone better having an epiphany, stopping the brutality, and calling for rescue.

But really, I'd most prefer the Federation getting a clue, rescuing everyone, arresting the leader, and deprogramming everyone else.

I don't want her to suffer, I either want her to understand, and realize that she's done wrong. Or for everyone who follows her to know that she was a bad example, and for them to understand instead.
