Oh hey, didn't know something like this was coming. Neat!

With regards to the material presented in the first part, I find it interesting that every work of speculative fiction I've come across that wouldn't logically have chess, will still have a chess equivalent if not just having chess itself anyway. Or I suppose more accurately some strategic war simulator board game, as the video shows chess ain't the only one or even the first. I mean it kinda makes sense that people in those other worlds would develop their own war game, and in fantasy works it's interesting that they usually do include rules for mimicking the magic system that exists in universe, but still, without fail. Pseudo-chess will be there.

Really hoping this series gets to Decipher as that's at once the company I'm most familiar with as in terms of cardgames I've played many many more games of Trek and LotR than I have Magic, I even used to be on their forums (on the incredibly slim chance you're on here Siskoid, I'm sorry now about ripping off your forum project), but also the one I don't know much about at all given how messy the end of that supposedly was.

Given the crazy massive tangent this video went on before getting to D&D, in a video series about Magic the Gathering....

It's going to be weird when this eventually and inevitably gets to Yu-gi-oh.

"Time of Clerics" is out now. We're finally getting into the "Satanic Panic" era, with all the juicy fearmongering.

Assuming it not just Chess classic.

Chess tends to be narrative shorthand for ''i'm a deep character.'' Nine times out of ten, it will be accompanied by guys (and it is mostly guys) looking on with forlorn expressions, a hand on their chin, copious amounts of beard scratching, and a wise quip or opinion on the events of the day. It was our introduction to Kirk and Spock after all.

Or in other words, its a very lazy trope that often makes very little sense in-universe but is there solely for the viewer.

Speaking of Dungeons and Dragons, has anyone seen the current state of the sixth edition? Here's a link to a video going over it. Basically Hasbro's aim is to morph D&D from a fun and cheap pastime into an online microtransaction filled mess.

Part of the fun of D&D and one of the reasons why it got so successful is because its cheap. All you need is imagination, some dice and a rule book and that is exactly how poor kids like I was back in the day played it. And maybe i'm just an old man and this is the times we live in but I do not see the improvement by trying to turn this into a rich man's hobby.
