[DS9] Til Death Do Us Part

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

At about 4:33 in: Why does Sisko have a statue on his desk of a Giger alien about to eat a guy?

Doylist answer: Because Ira Behr LOVES nods at other works and actor allusions? This is the same man who built a huge part of the 4400's ongoing plot around Jeffrey Combs making a glowing green injectable fluid with supernatural properties that he also injects into himself.

Watsonian answer because this is Star Trek the Doylist answer is never good enough: The Xenomorphs are clearly a kind of boogeymen in Bajoran folklore and the statue was a gift to the Emissary from a Bajoran craftsman in appreciation for him taking an interest in their culture and religion.

Alternate Doylist answer: That's not actually what it is it's just some abstract art but we are all in mind of Xenomorphs thanks to the recent release of Alien Covenant.

This episode continues following Season 7's unintended subplot, "The Prophets are unbelievable assholes and why should we care about them."

I'm going to say something super controversial.

I actually liked the stuff with Winn and Dukat.

Alaimo and Fletcher have a lot of chemistry and even though it's very icky because of the deception involved and what he did to her people, that scene where he tells the fake story about how he survived the occupation, then takes her hands, then realizes he probably shouldn't touch her and pulls away, is very well done and if it were any other people involved I would have been on the edge of my seat hoping they had kissed. Maybe I am just that much of a shipper, I don't know. It certainly worked better then the Worf x Ezri x Bashir love triangle nonsense.

oh no you're right The two work so well off of each other you wonder why it took so long to get them together

It's the evil power couple we never wanted.

For Dukat's plotline, it makes sense as a follow-on to "Covenant", but Winn has been absent from the show since "The Reckoning", so it feels a little rushed in that respect.

Ultimately the problem is the whole Bajor religion arc is nowhere near as well seeded throughout DS9 as the Dominon plot

Then again all those focus episode on Ezri in an attempt to flesh her out could have been used to build the Pah Wraith and Winn's inevitable fall to them.

The problem is, for all intents and purposes, the great threat they will unleash are the Pah Wraiths. But, the Pah Wraiths are a paper tiger. We've seen the extent of their powers, and it boils down to possessing a middle aged botanist, with O'Brien able to kill one, Kai Winn able to make them run away by typing into a console. Dukat trying to conquer the galaxy with them just seemed silly.

It'd be darkly hilarious if the events of the finale happened, and instead of Sisko going alone with a phaser, he had the crew of the Defiant set up the same gas from the Reckoning and pumped it into the caves, with the device modifications from The Assignment, ending their reign of terror with SCIENCE!,

Prophets then say that the Sisko has fulfilled his destiny, yadda yadda yadda.
