Do they still count as redshirts if they become ARC troopers later?

This was a fine episode, but I remember being honestly confused watching the later episodes about Domino Squad--the group we met on Rishi station: Hevy, Echo, Cutup, Droidbait and Fives.

When I first saw the episode "Clone Cadet" I went "Hey wait ... Hevy? Cutup? I remember those names--aren't you dead?" I do not recall there being ANY explanation for why we were seeing the background of these five characters: this wasn't a story being told by one of the survivors as a flashback or whatnot. Mr. Excitable Narrator was no help either. It was suddenly just an episode about five Clones we had already met, and three of them were already dead. It was weird.

They are clones. Echo and Droidbait are already very unoriginal names, repeats are to be expected.

No, it actually IS the same characters in "Clone Cadets" that we see in "Rookies," just at an earlier point in their lives. Despite the fact that the Clone Wars never had any other episodes that took place before other already seen episodes. It was mostly sequential. Still strikes me as weird. Because I guess we're suppose to have bonded with these characters enough that we would want to see where it all began?

This is the best episode of the first season.
Not that there was much competition.

Star Wars ability to actually kill characters did give it a bit of an edge over other shows. They could get away with more justifying it by the strength of the brand. I wish better shows with better starting points (cause f the prequels) could be afforded the same freedom in animation.

Actually, Clone Wars jumps around a lot in the timeline during the first three seasons.

It's not that odd when you consider the films have gone 4,5,6,1,2,3,7,3.9. I think they also wanted to show off how much they had improved, there's a pretty big contrast between the more rigid animation and limited assets of Rookies and the bigger and more dynamic ARC troopers.

This is actually me complaining about something that is kind of out of date.
I grew up watching way too many harmless ray guns not killing people while Spiderman swung around. Regular guns have been a thing in cartoons long enough now that this is just not something I should be bothered by.

Though I do think that the carnage in things like "Avatar" was a bit too bloodless at times. And the various "Avengers" cartoons don't have many SHIELD agents buying the farm. Really, I can't think of a cartoon outside of "Clone Wars" in which military casualties, like screaming death upon being shot or eaten, is as present.

Maybe this is just my thing.

A long time ago, I used to highly recommend people this series if they hated Episode 3, which a lot of people did. I told them The Clone Wars series, at least after season 2, where some of the best written Star Wars ever seen. Of course, the episodes about the droids and Jar Jar were just as bad as they sounded.

Season 5 was my favorite. It got really dark

And the best part of this series is that it made Anakin Skywalker a real person. From his interactions and story arcs, you'd believe this man will become Darth Vader one day.

My head cannon will always have this series override some of the dumb things in Episode 3 like Anakin at the temple. I really wished there could have been a better way for that scene to be done without unjustified child murder involved.
