Looks like there is a new phpBB plugin that supports Akismet. Anyone's guess how long the developer will keep it functional, though. They've abandoned similar phpBB plugins several times in the past.

Eh. I don't really know what we can do that Steve isn't already doing without getting distinctly hardcore. He cleans them out when he can, but presumably he has other things going on. And it's not like they're difficult to recognize.
