I don't suppose there's some kind of mod for this forum software that could connect it to http://www.stopforumspam.com/ is there?

phpBB doesn't seem to have much for spam control, the built-in CAPTCHAs hardly work.

Maybe it's time to jump over to bbPress before things get rolling too hard...

The trivial way would be to screen everyones first post, then allow unlimited posting. Would add admin overhead though.

The Q&A CAPTCHA on my own forum has worked wonders for eliminating spam. I mentioned this in the welcome back thread; so long as you set it up for highly specific trivia knowledge rather than general knowledge, it screws up spambots. I've only rotated the questions once in eight years.

This sounds pretty good.

Are there enough mods to prune the 0-post accounts resurfacing as spambots?

There is one of them now with two full pages of inexpensive pills for your dicks.

I think they might have made too many dick pills. Cause these robots are pushing them like mad.

It's kind of a silly thought, but I've been wondering if you could sue spammers. I mean, the site makes money from paid advertisements, so spammers could be argued to be avoiding paying for a service. Mind you, it wouldn't be at all practical. Doing so would at least require actually proving that a spam bot is a creation of a representative of the company you're suing and the money you could get likely wouldn't make up what you spent in legal fees. Not to mention the time wasted with the whole endeavor.

Still, I kinda wonder if you could win theoretically win that case.

You CAN sue spammers I am pretty sure. The main problem is actually, you know, finding them. A lot of them operate out of Russia, China, and various peripheral countries, so seriously good luck trying to track them down when resources are already maxed out attempting to prosecute malevolent hackers from those places.

Q&A CAPTCHA using some of Chuck's video stuff as trivia would be a good idea.

Something like "Neelix commonly called a ____ "

Or "Poor Dumb ___"
