Kirk and orion slave girls
I find it funny those two are so closely associated with each other since in TOS Kirk never meet one on screen. They were a captain Pike thing.
Re: Kirk and orion slave girls
Well, he meets Marta in Whom Gods Destroy, doesn't he? Though I'm not sure come to think of it that she's ever referred to as a "slave girl". Perhaps she's just an Orion woman who likes erotic dancing.
Though TBH I much prefer Chuck's idea on Orion Slave Girl lore as expounded in his review of Enterprise's Bound, and this is now my headcanon on how it works.

It also the only explanation that doesn't make Pike seems lile a heartless montmster who want to work in the slave trade.Muzer wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 8:05 pm Well, he meets Marta in Whom Gods Destroy, doesn't he? A lot of it has to do with the fact that most episodes featured that still shot of Susan Oliver dancing as Vina in the closing credits, that made it kind of sink into the viewers psyche.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:14 pm I find it funny those two are so closely associated with each other since in TOS Kirk never meet one on screen. Re: Kirk and orion slave girls
My first exposure was in Trek '09, so I thought it was more of a retread when Chuck brought it up in his review, just normalized for modern times (in the middle of a dorm room after the fact instead of a romantic scene fading to black in the 60's as I assumed).
Having watched the series keeping this legend in mind, he does come into contact with the slave girls as far as I think I remember, and he does go so far as to cunningly charm someone in another episode as per his captain's prerogative. Thus is legend, which is kind of muddled given they just went there with Trek '09.

..What mirror universe?

This is more common than you'd think.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:14 pm I find it funny those two are so closely associated with each other since in TOS Kirk never meet one on screen. They were a captain Pike thing.
Detective Friday from Dragnet never said "Just the facts, ma'am".
Bogart doesn't say "Play it again, Sam" in Casablanca, but "Play it, Sam".

Re: Kirk and orion slave girls
I took Pike as basically just rambling bullshit off he'd rather be doing. Which is canon even to the episode.

It's probably a combination of that misquote effect and the Kirk Drift.Beastro wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 5:33 amThis is more common than you'd think.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:14 pm I find it funny those two are so closely associated with each other since in TOS Kirk never meet one on screen.
