When All Your Wisdom Comes From Science Fiction...

When I get into debates about stuff like politics, philosophy and history I find myself quoting a lot of the science fiction and fantasy I have read or watched. Now I am getting a little concerned as to what does that say about me?

Am I an idiot or just someone who reads very wise and though provoking material?

Anyone else feel the same way sometimes?

It's a wide topic, but generally speaking I think that the primary purpose of speculative fiction is to explore ideas and perspectives on things like politics, history, and philosophy. Due to that, it makes sense that it would be a touchstone for a lot of discussions in those areas.

What I learned from Halo is that assassinating your political enemies ends wars.

It kind of depends on who you are. Likely there's stuff outside of standardized speculative sci/fi mold that reflects off you in the real world. If not then I think that's more extraordinary in itself than what you're missing, but the point being that sci-fi obviously isn't all there is to wisdom but can reflect upon it to any dimension all the same.

Wisdom's obviously as much a path as it is a dataset, so what the center of it all seems to be in this case is how much you can see sci-fi for its part in everything. That will be tied greatly and seemingly miraculously into that question about who you are and the relevance of anything you're paying attention to with sci-fi and what you get out of it etc.
