My big beef is just that... that is such a tone-deaf statement if as I've ever come upon.
We ARE working. We're working too much. We're overworked. My uncle collapsed from work exhaustion two years back and had to be rushed to the hospital. H, all the times I've popped off on here and been snippy, well... sorry for that, my average work week is around 50 hours, sometimes a little over. I get good overtime, but it's brutal out there.
I've made no bones that I never went to college (too pricey), so maybe I'm just too economically illiterate to know how a minimum wage can't work, though I can say historically speaking, without that we're back down to pittance wages. Minimum wage is a safety net. We need higher safety nets and greater opportunities - not equity, opportunities. Equal opportunities for all.
This is why I hate politics because I've seen both DNC and GOP utter such drivel in comparative measure. They're the rulers and we're the little peons. And it's why I hate it in entertainment media. And yet at the rate things are going, I don't know if I'm gonna be able to have my social security when I retire when you hear talk about slashing funding for social programs. Because we gotta slash social programs meant to help people, right? When there's literally dozens of other potential avenues for funding reallocation.

I can get the overworked part. My first ever salary position was equivalent to $10.00 an hour when minimum wage was $7.50 or such. So I thought it was great for entering a company. Then the work week was 70-80 hours not 40. And I was effectively making less than minimum wage. And college is always going to be a gamble. I worked at a place where a guy had an associates degree in computer IT. What was he doing? Pushing a broom and lifting heavy things like the rest of us. Just with more debts. The flipside is the guys that got degrees and jobs related to their degree and make decent money. There do not seem to be clear paths to success.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 3:59 am My big beef is just that... that is such a tone-deaf statement if as I've ever come upon.

And that is before you reach the insanity that is HR departments. Two tales I read this past year. HR wanting a Masters degree and five years experience in a piece of software for an entry position. Oh and the software had only been out for three years. The other tale was a guy looking to work for a company and they flat out told him he did not know the software they were using so he did not qualify for a good wage. He pointed out he wrote that software and made his good-byes.
And oh boy do I agree with you on Social Security being gone by the time we reach it. If we reach it. They have moved the retirement age at least twice in my life time. And I heard they blame us for living long enough to reach that age.
So basically I want to give this post two huge thumbs up.

I agree with you up to this point. The whole "hustle culture" bullshit is the natural consequence of internalizing this insane troll logic. If hard work pays, show me rich donkey. We are expected to do more work, even though we are more efficient than ever. It's not even for the sake of profit, it's busy work!Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 3:59 am My big beef is just that... that is such a tone-deaf statement if as I've ever come upon.

And this is where you lose me. The GOP are always attacking the minimum wage or keeping it low. At least SOME democrats are TRYING to raise it to a point where you don't need three jobs just to sleep in your car and die from a heart attack at age 47. The bad democrats are mostly bad in that they are moderates who act more like the GOP.This is why I hate politics because I've seen both DNC and GOP utter such drivel in comparative measure. If you want less work and more social safety nets, that's what AOC and the "radicals" that you recoil from are pushing for.

I got nothing to say here.

Only two democrats I see who, IMO, get it would be Mr. Sanders and Ms. Warren. Now, do I agree with Mr. Sanders' tankie qualities? No. But at the same time, policy, right? Not character. But then they are also very few and far in between the party. At least they understand the grit most of us work with. Someone like Mr. Biden, not a chance.
I also really hate the complete lack of reflection from the DNC, similar to the GOP. One example, it seems like every time they lose the minority vote, they blame voter suppression. Yes, that's a real thing which is a factor, but how one defines voter disenfranchisement versus stringent voter requirements is left up to debate, even though division is how the game is played... but that being said, could it not be most POC just really hate what the DNC has to offer? To what extent is it voter suppression or just dislike for what they give us? How else to explain Mr. Trump having a more diverse voter bloc than Mr. Romney? Relative to the GOP, anyway. It's well known at this point the DNC are just toadies to the corporate rulers as much as the GOP is. And when they lose, just like the GOP, they have the prepared talking points all ready.
Gotta spin-doctor. It's the other party's fault you're doing so badly, never yours.
And the reason I'm not a democrat is that I don't want to defund or abolish police. Look at CHAZ. Reform may be impossible, but I'm not gonna support a precursor to widespread chaos and mass criminalization. Even POC communities don't want less or no cops. That's the same group of young white pot smokers who use terms like LatinX most Latinos and Latinas I've met reject. Yet I could never be a republican when you got numb nuts like Mr. Akin and his misogynistic comments on how women can somehow delete a rape pregnancy. What a joke.

Chaos and mass criminalization? Do you mean a rise of lynch mobs and the like in areas with a lack of police or that criminalization would increase elsewhere and it would somehow be the fault of those areas?Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 4:16 am Gotta spin-doctor. And how is recognizing an aspect of politics of the US spin-doctoring for the other party? I can do that.

Yes, sorry to tell you, without cops, crime rates increase. Who'da thought? The way they're shaping up now is the natural end result to our rising political trends, where only a select few hold all power. And while many cops need to be fired, prosecuted, trained in de-escalation, and also subject to greater scrutiny, the news media loves to spin everyone a yarn of violent cops prowling the streets ready to murder at any time. So all the other hundreds of thousands of officers have to put up with the reputation of the bad apples.
Because which is the true reason black communities turn out less to vote? Is it voter suppression or just general apathy? Because let me tell you, for 2020, I could see instances that would support both cases, that no one liked Mr. Biden with all his comments, and it had driven a few away or even to Mr. Trump. At the same time, however, the GOP is trying to curtail their votes, stringing along sensible voter ID processes into bureaucratic nightmares. So that could have played the role. But neither party will admit to that because they are determined to destroy the other and control their base.

So how does rising crime rates connect to mass criminalization? That's what I'm missing here, your implying it's obvious yet you brought up the somewhat complex concept of criminalization without a clear connection to the topic.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 5:30 am Yes, sorry to tell you, without cops, crime rates increase. It's criminalizing the masses by enabling criminal opportunists.
