So after receiving death threats for donating money to Donald Trump, directed at both him and his pregnant wife, Scott Cawthon is retiring from the world of gaming. Personally, I think this is a weak move - death threats online are just a silencing tactic, and the people who make them are idiots. The best thing to do is ignore them and live your life. Also, submitting to cancel culture only strengthens the censors. That said, it's his life, he's a millionaire, and if he wants to quit to enjoy his life, more power to him. Thoughts? I'd love to hear from the people who were so furious about the pollsters who received death threats, to know if they somehow think this case is different.

If it were just myself, I would probably follow your advice, but a wife and child adds a lot of complexity.Reality wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 12:18 am https://www.newsweek.com/why-scott-cawt ... ys-1601434

Personally, it reminds me of 2013, just before Ender's Game hit theaters. There was an article about why people should not feel guilty for seeing the movie because Orson Scott Card, who wrote the novel on which the film was based and was a staunch conservative, was not going to get any money from the film because of legal details regarding film rights to his work. As soon as I read that I felt kinda guilty because if they turned my novel into a film i would want to make some money off of it.

It's a shame the "tolerant Left" is anything but tolerant, because Card's universe could make a very interested cinematic EU.

Why must it always devolve into death threats? I didn't like him because of his leanings (and was never the biggest fan of his work, to begin with), but death threats are never the answer.

Because it makes people feel clever and important, like they are actually doing something important. It seems like both the left and right do it more for the hipsterism, because it gives them an excuse to feel like they are smarter than everyone else, rather than they actually believe what their side is saying.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 2:01 am Why must it always devolve into death threats? Death threats were uncalled for, but anyone that donates to the GOP is a piece of shit.

He also donated to Tulsi Gabbard, y'know. But she's not a "Progressive" Democrat, so you probably also think she's sub-human, dontchya?

I think it's just a sign people are out of things to say, really. It's like IRL when people argue, you know it's done when someone lunges, screaming.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 2:01 am Why must it always devolve into death threats? Yes, because one cannot both be tolerant and stand for intolerance.Reality wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 11:04 am"Tolerant Left"Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 3:05 am Death threats were uncalled for, but anyone that donates to the GOP is a piece of shit.

Well he made a shit ton of money selling the rights, let's not pretend Orson Scott Card didn't benefit.
Also, if anyone had liked the movie [*rimshot*], they would have also bought the book.
