Ever since the show ended there has been a demand by fans of the series for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power to get a sequel movie. At first I wasn't so sure of this mainly because the show had wrapped up every major plot and character arc. Horde Prime and the evil Horde has been defeated, Hordak turned from Prime and joined the heroes (sort of), Glimmer was reunited with her father, the Heart of Etheria was destroyed which restored magic to the world. Catra has redeemed herself, Adora came to realize that she deserves love too, Shadow Weaver is dead (THANK GOD!), Mara's legacy has been restored & Catra and Adora admitted their love for each other and are now in a relationship.
So, what could a movie do with everything wrapped up? Well, there is one plot thread that was setup in the show but has yet to be resolved and that is the hate of Queen Angella, Glimmer's mom. It was made clear that Angella wasn't killed but rather trapped in another dimension in order to stop reality from going down the crapper. This was a MAJOR moment in the series with it being what resulted in Adora giving up on saving Catra from herself, that re-enforced Adora's martyr complex and set Glimmer on her path for self-destruction that almost destroyed all of Etheria.
This is the one plot point left unresolved that has left an notable impact on the 3 of the 4 leads and with the right handling it could make for a great movie! So, that would be what I would want, a story where Adora and the others have found a way to bring Angella back but this draws the attention of a new villain who seeks to fill the power vacuum left in the wake of Horde Prime's return who sees uses this power to become as powerful as She-Ra so if they succeeds not only will the heroes fail to save Angella but a new threat will emerge to threaten the galaxy.
The story is one that has a personal stake for the heroes as this would fully solidify Catra's redemption and re-enforce Adora's self worth and allow Glimmer to have both her parents back while presenting a threat that can threaten the galaxy by being a twisted inversion of She-Ra. This ultimately results in a two on one fight with Adora and Catra battling the film's villain.
I love the finale of the series but I do want to see She-Ra and Catra as a Battle Couple against an opponent that they can only defeat by them working together with a little help from their friends. Throw in a bigger budget for more fluid animation, a good script with a solid beginning, middle and end and this could be AMAZING!!!

By movie, do you mean a cinematic release? The first thing to ask yourself here is ''does this show have the following required to make such a decision profitable?''
Firefly made that mistake. The fans went on and on about a movie to wrap up the show... and it bombed, pretty killing any other franchise getting the same treatment. I think the same happened with Farscape.

Given this is a Netflix series odds are good it would only get a Streaming release but Netflix did release Klaus to limited theaters so She-Ra might get the same treatment. Show does have a massive following (enough to get it an Hugo Nomination) and the show is still being talked about on news sites (the article that talked about the series getting a movie was released a day ago) so it I'd say it's a safe bet that the series does have a large enough to make it profitable.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 6:10 am By movie, do you mean a cinematic release? It would come down mainly to marketing (something that isn't Netflix's strong suit) or fans getting word of mouth out (My Big Fat Greek Wedding anyone?) but it is possible that it could make a pretty profit. To take a look at Serenity the film had a pretty weak marketing campaign and was based on a show that, sadly, not many people even know about. Firefly is a fun show but it's likely never going to be as popular as Star Trek or Star Wars despite it being, IMO, just as good as those series.
But She-Ra is a major player in an growing market with LGBT becoming more and more mainstream thanks in no small part to releasing high quality stories that are loved by critics and general audiences alike. It's already in the mainstream with even news papers talking about the show even though, again, it's been over a year since the series came to an end.
Still, only time will tell but if there is a She-Ra movie this is the story I would want and I would personally love to see it regardless if it was in theaters or at home on my TV screen.

I want blantent expies of He-Man characters.

It would be nice to see Adora meet her biological family, especially given how $#!t her surrogate mother was to her and Catra during the series, and I would also love to see how Catra would interact with her brother-in-law and just to see how Stevenson would write the He-Man characters like Adam and Teela. Sadly, because of convoluted copyright rules the She-Ra reboot cannot use any He-Man characters so it's likely we wouldn't see them.

I'm guessing a sequel movie would have a bit of a time skip. This is based entirely on Stevenson having already casually talked about Adora and Catra's child Flinn, so I assume they would be part of future plans for the series.

Yeah, I was disappointed when I heard that Noelle Stevenson wasn't working on the new he-man series. The world building she did was so good I would love to see how He-man and Skeletor fit into this universe, heck I could easily see Bravestarr fitting into this universe.Winter wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:53 amIt would be nice to see Adora meet her biological family, especially given how $#!t her surrogate mother was to her and Catra during the series, and I would also love to see how Catra would interact with her brother-in-law and just to see how Stevenson would write the He-Man characters like Adam and Teela. Aside from finding Queen Angella, you could also do a story about Catra's origins. This might work better as more like a one season story arch, the way I picture it. In the last episode Adora talks about heading out to bring magic back to the universe and everyone agrees to join her, so during their travels they discover some new enemy that turns out to be Catra's people. They are not really evil but they have suffered so much its hard for them to move on. So this would be Catra coming full circle, working to redeem her people the same way Adora and Glimmer redeemed her. So the villain (let's call him General Tao) is basically what Catra would have been if Adora had not been there for her and the big confrontation at the end is really the Catra meeting herself; the Catra from the end of the series meeting the Catra from season 1.

That's why I said expies. Mattel owns He-MSN and the Masters of the universe, the don't He-Sekhmet and the Warriors of the Galaxy.Winter wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:53 amIt would be nice to see Adora meet her biological family, especially given how $#!t her surrogate mother was to her and Catra during the series, and I would also love to see how Catra would interact with her brother-in-law and just to see how Stevenson would write the He-Man characters like Adam and Teela. This is just me but in a she-ra movie, while it concentrates on the new series maybe it can have elements from the original series to draw in the fans that grew up watching the 1985 cartoon.
Re: What I Would Want in a She-Ra Movie (Spoilers Allowed)
On a related note I went over to Archive of or Own and went to the He-Man page (I was looking to see who He-Man was shipped with most there) and when I went to the shipper page the post popular ship was Catra and Adora with Bow and Glimmer as the second most popular. On on the character side of things Adora, Catra, Glimmer and Bow all ranked as the 2d, 3d, 4th and 5th most written characters on the site with only He-Man in the number 1 spot.
And I checked these were the Reboot She-Ra characters and not the original She-Ra characters. That doesn't mean the original She-Ra that series characters weren't included at all. Quite the opposite in fact as when seeing which series He-Man had the most crossover with both She-Ra's were included with both having about the same number of fics at the time of this writing.
And in regards to the new He-Man series many fans from the She-Ra reboot have begun to check out the rest of the series and have found that they enjoy it and many older fans do seem to be coming around to liking the reboot.
So, I do think this could happen though I'm still not familiar enough with the original series to suggest how it could be done.
