What I Would Want in a She-Ra Movie: Klaus Lighting and Texture

Post by Winter »

While I personally feel the film's story isn't that strong the animation of the movie Klaus is AMAZING!!!

To show what I mean and to catch those who have yet to see the film here's a video that goes into the detail of the animation of this BEAUTIFUL movie.

Now I LOVE She-Ra but most of that love comes from how well the show is written, acted and directed but the animation is the weakest link in this otherwise great show. I can honestly put that aside if the story is good much like how the dated effects of Star Trek don't bother me because the story is what keeps me coming back. She-Ra's animation is rather weak, is rather clunky in places which has led to several continuity errors, minor ones but still.

And for a She-Ra film I really want the animation to look as good as possible and I would prefer for said film to be 2D instead of 3D. Sadly, 2D for film has largely fallen out of style and thanks to the still ongoing pandemic the breakthroughs in Klaus haven't been able to be employed in other animated films. 2D is my preferred style of animation as I feel it feels more organic and expressive as even 3D films that allow for more expressive animation (like Hotel Transylvania) have yet to capture the more organic feel of 2D.

I want a She-Ra film to be 2D and to look as good as possible by keeping the shows style but with the budget of a movie and being able to blur the line between CG and Hand Drawn. I want the same level of quality of writing from the show with a animation to back it up. I want 2D to make a come back and it would be so AWESOME if a show I loved helped 2D make that comeback.

Have you ever seen Dragon Ball Super: Broly?

I have no idea what the action looks like in She Ra but Dragon Ball half the movie is that. It was also seperate by three parts. Kinda why if you pay attention, the animation style changes. Specifically Goku.

But it uses alot of CGI and 'hand drawn' stuff.

The problem with CGI is the issue of trying to make a 2D character created in 3D still look like 2D. In some scenes specifically the final battle with Gogeta, both Broly and Gogeta resemble video game character looks.

CGI does make it easier to make bigger and better battles. Though I suspect She Ra isn't that powerful enough to do the stuff Dragon Ball characters can do.

Futurama is damned good at using CGI when needed.
I got nothing to say here.
