It was before my time but looking at it based on what I read the situation with the Afghan war is starting to sound like how the Vietnam war went.

The USA likes to bomb the shit out of countries that threaten their oil interests. We replaced a democratically elected leader in Iran with an evil dictator for that reason.

Now imagine how threatening a revolution would be full of women who might care more about getting their daughters educated than staying on the right side of a country that has consistently bombed the shit out of them. A country that already has huge problems with consent, victim blaming, etc. A country with a senate comprised mostly of man, many of whom have enough skeletons in their closet to outfit a Museum of Natural History and a Halloween Funhouse with enough left over for a dozen goth xylophone bands.

Given that sexual harassment and rape are one thing that politicians of both parties have in common, do you REALLY think any country in the middle east where the women manage to overthrow oppressive men will not have a giant red target painted on it? Especially when we have a pentagon budget and a leading industry that depends on being perpetually at war?

The only way we WOULDN'T bomb the shit out of them is if we decided to organize a CIA lead round of coupes and assassinations instead.

I agree completely. Literally any action other than gendercide would get them cheers from London and Washington. I could completely understand why they would want some violent revenge though.

So do you no longer agree that the war was lost long ago, and the US Army has just been puttering around for years trying to find a way to save face? Or do you think if we'd just stuck in there another year we'd somehow turn this around and declare victory?

Or that we should stay there for an indeterminate amount of time until somehow the US can claim victory?

This isn't something that came out of the blue either. Trump back in November 2020 was pulling back too for it to eventually get reduced down to 2500 troops.

What exactly can 2500 soldiers do in a whole country? Except to just be there?
