Love island and the good fighr?
Love Island is sort of the ultimate example of trashy sexy TV like if you took the Bachelor and removed even the thin veneer of class.
The Good fight is a streaming-only sequel to popular series, The Good Wife, which found its audience with constant repeated Trump bashing plots. Which, you know, is why I watch it.
And ever since the merger with Viacom it’s pretty much become a home for Paramount titles, which for me was the big upgrade from its original CBS incarnation. It’s how I was finally able to give Young Indians Jones a shot for the first time (a show I actually found better than I expected, at least once Indy goes off to World War I).
The only downside as far as Trek is concerned is that the movies are still contractually licensed elsewhere, so the app hasn’t got all Trek under one roof quite yet.
On the bright side, it’s going to exclusively debut the Director’s Edition of The Motion Picture in 4K.
My hope is that down the line they use the app as the platform to stream a remaster of DS9, pretty much like how HBO started streaming a remastered Babylon 5.
I heard so many reasons or excuses why DS9 didn't get a remaster like TNG or TOS. Not that it needs that sort of updating. But bringing it up to 4k quality. Something about the CGI scenes were not filmed to make it easy. TNG didn't do as well as expected so they didn't do DS9.
The main reason is that by the time they released TNG on HD it was the fifth home video release and Netflix was already a household name. Hard to justify the cost, when some of the costs were going to be greater. The DS9 HD scenes in the documentary are amazing. The color balance on the DVDs is abysmal.

I loved the clarity and detail of the DS9 scenes in the documentary but the colors were way too bright for my taste.
I have seen fan attempts and they are amazing. Maybe somewhere down the line with computers being faster and more powerful that we will see a DS9 upgrade. Perhaps when they can upgrade each episode in an hour or two each then it we might see it.

Specifically who became a new Trek fan because of Discovery. Who are new and how much do they make up the average viewing.
I am willing to bet money it's small. Smaller than new fans being made due to the old Trek.
I imagine it's pretty large actually since my nieces and wife became Star Trek fans because they liked DISCO. People who never have Star Trek experiences before but tuned in for prestige TV can now go back and watch the stuff they never saw before.
Certainly new fans aren't going to watch Star Trek TOS or VOY first.

I'm not sure why anyone else would have Paramount Plus at all if they weren't a fan, so I imagine a good percentage are. Otherwise, they're paying a lot just for reruns of Big Bang Theory, or whatever.
Being a non-fan is probably a bonus for the first season of Discovery, at which point as it walks back into Trek they discover they're fans now, too.
