The Afghan War is over

I got nothing to say here.
Re: The Afghan War is over
This was going to be a mess either way no matter who was president at the time.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 5:29 amThere was an agreement with Trump. Hindsight 20/20 I highly doubt the Taliban would have held.BBally81 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 11:57 am A reminder that, it was the Trump administration who made that deal with the Taliban to begin with, so Trump should share the blame of the situation along with Biden.
Also, let's be honest. A huge number of the far right who are crying out about Kabul wouldn't give that much of a sh** about Afghan civilians dying if this happened during Trump's tenure.
Trump supporters will also point out that Biden disbanded the Trump appointed committee that would have oversaw such a thing though.
Re: The Afghan War is over
Nothing for nothing, but the Taliban have generally held to their agreement, which was basically:
-> We leave by May 2020 (which was delayed to August)
-> You don't shoot us on the way out
-> You hunt terrorist groups like IS-KP

Yup. If we're talking about 20/20 hindsight, its probably one of the best deals Trump ever made. Not his fault the withdraw was so badly pulled off.

Re: The Afghan War is over
I keep hearing that Trump has actually kept his campaign promises, and that he has done a few good things in the Middle East... I'm not going to take a firm position on that one way or another, barring the man's language, of course, because I find very few people will defend the words he uses. I mean, even on a hot-button subject such as immigration, the popular consensus I find is that people hate his rhetoric, but prefer his policies. Not getting into that. But really, I don't know where I stand. Just that on the issue of actual WORDS, they DO have consequences and he should have reined them back in more. Those directly contributed to the incitement of violence in January. If he wasn't egging them on, I don't think we'd have had that happen. And I'm someone who lives only 70 miles from the Twin Cities. I was rather disgusted and embarrassed by the hooligans here dragging Minnesota into the national spotlight last year. I never liked George Floyd's death, I never dismissed it because he was a "criminal" the way I heard some idiots doing in my own town, I want better training and reform for cops, and I also will not defend looting and burning down buildings. But I'll still hold that man's tongue responsible for his loss in November and the chaos in January. But given how I feel and the crazy, violent debates we're having just about the WORDS WE USE, what is and is not appropriate and what that means for your status in society, I mean, I really HOPE he doesn't run again. With how disappointed I am in the Democratic leadership and with Trump's complete disregard for decorum, as well as the fact America has traditionally and consistently been an economically conservative country, I don't know if we could survive it if he won again. I think we'd tear ourselves apart, something that we're already having way too much of. But is that his fault, or our fault? Sadly, I think I lean more toward the latter.

And yet if Biden followed through "as planned", you would get ton of far right outlets raging about the President making deals with terrorists.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 6:38 pmYup. Politics is a dirty business no matter which side's in charged.

A lot of people here in Egypt wanted Trump to win including my mother because of claims that he was "putting the radical Muslim Brotherhood party in their place" and out of fear that Biden would put the Brotherhood back into power after the country finally got rid of them due to the long standing claims that the Democratic party had connections to the Brotherhood.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 6:52 pm I keep hearing that Trump has actually kept his campaign promises, and that he has done a few good things in the Middle East... Of course that's ignoring that Trump sucked up to both Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Saudi Arabia who are still doing some nasty human rights violations and Turkey whose current government provided shelter to the Muslim Brother as well as members of ISIS or how Trump ordered troops out of nothern Syria just when ISIS was on the ropes.

You're hearing voices? I'd suggest to not listen to them.

From the other side. Personally, I don't know what to believe. But it does require how you look at it. There's truth in everything. But even if he has, his language remains indefensible and words do have consequences. Never denied that.
