Re: She chi
I want to get excited about the Shang Chi film but my problem is that, the trailer didn't make it feel like the Shang Chi comics I'm familiar with, espionage stories, down and gritty atmosphere with the occasionally superhero team ups against supervillains. A shame too because I was happy they got an actor who actually knows martial arts to play the character. While other MCU films did do things different from the comics, they still felt familiar while the Shang Chi film feels quite different.
I remember when I first got into Shang Chi comics, there was a small stand that sold sweets, cigarettes, music CDs/cassettes, newspapers and magazines I passed by on my way to school. He also sold really old Marvel comics like that go back to the 70s and they only costed 50 Egyptian piasters (a piastre is equivalent to a cent) and one of those comics I used to buy from him were Hands of Shang Chi, Master Of Kung Fu.
There was something appealing about this story about a hero who's father was an evil tyrant and how the stories had an espionage and adventure feel to them and how it felt more intense than the typical superhero action at the time. I'm sure some are going to argue "well the original comics suffer from Yellow Peril trope because of the Fu Manchu license."
Maybe on first glance but it feel more nuanced than that.
Going as far as portraying the comic's elder version of the Sax Rohmer novels' protagonist, Sir Denis Nayland Smith as more cynical than his literary counterpart.
Not a heel turn but the years going up against Manchu while being head of the MI6 has taken a toll on old Smith.

Either it's about chinese gods of earth and harvest/fertility or it's a gender-bendered fan-movie based off of "Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings"? Come to think of it, it could be both.

If the film isn't close to breaking even yet, it's close at least.

This is like a zen koan generated by an AI.
