One example? The two recent Battlefront games were pretty damned bad. Far cry from the originals.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 1:41 amYeah, proof that the propaganda of EA that costumer don't want single player experience and good stories is non sense.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 12:27 amGo try Fallen Order. Honestly it's so bizarre EA paid a mint for the exclusive license and then released four games over the course of a decade. It's like they just wanted to deprive anyone else from using the IP at the peak of its popularity out of sheer spite.

1) Release Battlefront
2) Profit from microtransactions as there's nowhere else for your Star Wars gaming fix
And microtransactions still require some developer support, so that tied up other effort, combined with the worry of self-competition, resulted in no other new games.

Re: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC REMAKE!!! YES!!!
Probably gonna regret this...
My question is, will Kevin J. Anderson, Tom Veitch, Chris Avellone, or Drew Karpyshyn be brought in as consultants, even if not writers? And the answer is no, I pretty much DOUBT IT. And sneer on KJA all you want. Yes, from my limited reading into the EU so far, I think his biggest flaw is how he writes people going into the dark side, but yeah, every writer has their weakness. Past that, those four men BUILT the whole Old Republic series of games. Tales of the Jedi, made by KJA and Tom Veitch, was the foundation, WITHOUT THAT THERE IS NO KOTOR, and I'm almost done with Fall of the Sith Empire, that I like so far, to which yeah, being a Legends game, KOTOR was FIRMLY part of, even references previous events numerous times. So KJA is a must in any DECENT remake, alongside Tom Veitch who made TOTJ with him. Same with Chris Avellone, who greatly expanded the first game, like revealing that Kreia, long theorized to be Arren Kae, was Revan's Master. Like, if you're going to bring aboard writers in for a game that's already made, why not add in a niggling fan detail like that instead of the inane drivel they no doubt will? People would love to finally have this older WMG be made canon. As much as I don't care or want to. And Drew Karpyshyn, well... enough said about that. The man wrote the Darth Bane Trilogy (that Filoni then took another ax to - what a surprise, lol), he... kinda dropped the ball in the Revan novel from what I hear, not looking forward to that... but! He did make the first KOTOR. Hell, Bastila Shan was going to be Nomi Sunrider if not for a royalties dispute with Tom Veitch, so yeah, there you go. Really, you can't have KOTOR without all the thousands upon thousands of connections to the EU. Bottom line.
And you know, I hear the TOR MMO is significantly less popular than it used to be with each successive update as time passes. You can really consider that a warm-up to what they plan to do here. Frankly, it's not surprising given the creeping in of the Disney influence and as I've said, going out of their way to dumb everything down to encourage consumer confusion because they want to manipulate us out of our money. Glad I'm not subbed to Old Republic. Let the normies have the run, that's not me.
I think this guy ran it down brilliantly. Probably just gonna dismiss him as some right-wing hater somehow, as if they can't cite legitimate criticisms about corporate abuse of the consumers, lol. Whatever.

Well, they can't bring in those four men, they're older white males, that'll instantly get hate-flagged on Twitter. Just you watch, Twitter would find some kinda way to twist them into Nazi KKK bigots, it's happened before. But really, I don't care if KOTOR is canon, I would prefer some kinda new story set in the older continuity, even a single comic that is appropriately labeled like 108, but ignoring me, the comparisons to FF7 and its remake are completely apt and he's not the only one who has made 'em. I see numerous sites out there making them. And I've never played Final Fantasy, but that's where you need to set your expectations. I ofc never intended to buy this, I was never asking for it, and without the Legends banner I'd have no added incentive to WANT to since it's not even part of the older Legends C-Canon timeline, but the idiotic normies that Disney wants to fleece. To me, what made KOTOR all the more meaningful is, for all that Carth harps on Telos, when you actually go to visit it in the second game, how you know the fate of all that happens there thousands of years later...
That Qui-Gon chooses his apprentice Xanatos from Telos. That he's corrupted by power and his wealthy father, the Governor, Crion. Falls to the dark side and vanishes, founding the Offworld Mining Corporation. And after his failed attempt to blow up the Jedi Temple with the fire crystals, assassinate Master Yoda (should have taken lessons from HK-47! ), and steal the riches they were holding in a planetary dispute, he makes his return to Telos, where you follow... the same planet the Exile and her crew once stood upon thousands of years prior. Now a planet that's sold out to corporate interests where the local citizenry just eat up the contests of the day as their natural resources are plundered to line Xanatos's pockets for Offworld expansion, bribery is rampant, and Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan meet Den and Andra, some of my favorite side characters in Jedi Apprentice, matched, perhaps, only by Guerra and Paxxi in #3. The Hidden Past. But Xanatos has restored his public reputation. It's a real chore to bring it all down, which they are able to do by finally learning, despite his checkered past as a petty thief in the same league as Quark, Den actually isn't all bad, as he rejects the potential for the bribe money for KATHARSIS and reveals the captured evidence, how bad Offworld exploitation of Telos is. In the furor, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon chase Xanatos to the ruined sacred spaces, a battle ensures, and with the four closing in and no way out, he makes his choice, spites Qui-Gon, and jumps into the acid pool, to deny them justice and his death. Took eight books, but they finally brought down Xanatos.
Oh hey! Another connection! Obi-Wan's statement in Phantom Menace may just apply to Jar Jar, "Why do I sense we've picked up another pathetic lifeform?" but if you know Qui-Gon's past, openly trusting shady characters like Den is right in line with how he operates in the movie. The man is awesome.
But I've gotten off topic. Well, anyway, that's my question that's already been answered. Without Kevin J. Anderson, Tom Veitch, Drew Karpyshyn, or Chris Avellone, I see this as merely KOTOR in name only. And it will be. Call me toxic all you want. The REAL toxic assholes are the abusive corporations who can't fail, so they can afford to patronize their customers and treat them like idiots and push agendas and smugly mouth off onto them no matter how much revenue is lost. And unfortunately, we have zero power to stop that. Is it so shocking? From past comments over the years, it was pretty much guaranteed I was going to hate this and I do. I'll pass. I have no interest past the coming the shitstorm. I'm gonna love it.

It's funny you mock me for saying Legends is a niche, but then look at KOTOR - a product of that continuity! So Disney's right to go chasing normies, apparently. And yeah, you wanted this. You've been asking for it. You made the bed. Now lie in it. While I never did, so I have every right to complain as loudly as I want and reserve every opportunity to do so. You're just bullies. The same as anyone else picking on the outlier nerds. "Oh boo-hoo, go cry into your books!" Yeah, we live in a world where wanting more books in a limited genre that will sell anyway, even in a limited format, is somehow mocked and just rejected. Completely disgusting society we live in. Sometimes makes you wonder if Joker was right.

Seriously your books aren't going anywhere they just aren't going to be connecting thems to the movies. Plus let's be honest this is one of the few part of legends anywhere really cares for other than the thrown trilogy.

I think most of the people on this thread have read more of Legends than you have. We're geeks of the generation where the original KOTOR is nostalgic. You aren't even an outlier for liking it. You're Dafydd flamboyantly insisting his life is so hard because he's "the only gay in the village" when everyone around him is quietly going about their day with their same-sex partners.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 1:59 pm It's funny you mock me for saying Legends is a niche, but then look at KOTOR - a product of that continuity! Re: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC REMAKE!!! YES!!!
Against my better judgment...
...was any of them consulted, when the games were originaly produced? Especially Tom Veitch. When you look at his designs in comics and then look at the games, they're so drastically different. His ships look actually ancient compared to the ones in games, which look like they could exist in prequel/original trylogy era, and no one would be the wiser. Especially since Hamerheads did show up in Rebels and Rogue One, and fit in just fine. I'm actually kinda sad, that the games didn't follow his art desing from comics.
