I mean for one communists ultimately want to eliminate the state where as an ideological socialist does not.

Speaking as the anti-communist anarchist: There's also the fact communism has specific branches that are pretty much, "Asshole Authoritarian" and "Totalitarian Nightmare." But it's not synonymous with them. Socialism is much-much wider branch of things too.

There's even a pair of words for the generic non-authoritarian version: democratic socialist. Being socialists who believe in...*drumroll* Democracy.

Because the latter I can definitely get behind, Stalin's rise to power basically ends the Russian revolution in total defeat, and Mao going from guerrilla leader who let many issues be decided on a local level to central power caused multiple disasters.

It was the people advocating radical changes in the structure of society who approved. Many of those people would be lumped together in the meaningless category "left-wing".

The Nazis were the main right wing party in German and were supported by the only other major right wing party to make Hilter chancellor.

Additionally in the US the conservatives were the primary supporters of eugenics, pushing for anti immigration, Anti-miscegenation laws, and pro segregation laws.

I didn't say they were "left wing", I said they were Socialist. They were Socialist within one nation, being not a formal political entity but a 'people'. And they were quite enthusiastic about ridding their society of everyone not within their nation.

In what way were they socialist? Because economically they were very capitalist and massively expanded the power and wealth of big business and privatized most of the assets of the German government. These are things fundamentally antithetical to socialism.

The Nazi Party's 25 point platform included these gems. It is certainly arguable that when given the chance they governed as a criminal gang outside of any ideology, but then so did the Bolsheviks. The Nazis never disavowed theses elements of their official platform.
