I'm not up to date about her situation and what led up to this. But I do remember that Jamie Spears wasnt exactly let's say the best father to her during her childhood and during her prime fame time.

How did he manage to get that much power over her after all that 14 years later anyway?
He got a psychologist to declare her incompetent after her public meltdown (said psychologist refuses to admit he did it despite court records saying he did) and a Judge gave him conservatorship of her since he requested it. Apparently, Brittney was driving home with her bodyguard when she saw Jaime waiting for her at her mansion that the bodyguard had to say was now his mansion.

Brittney couldn't challenge this because according to California law, she wasn't fit to be able to hire a lawyer and only Jaime could for her.

Honestly that sounds like grounds for her to sue her father. And it wouldn't surprise me if she did.

The question I got is how come it took this long?

We all have those episodes obviously not in the public eye. Bad breakups, stress, whatever take your pick.
I got nothing to say here.

Getting a lawyer not working for her father required her sneaking a phone to her multiple times and then judges dismissed two of her lawyers due to the fact they weren't approved by Jaime Spears. I mean, it nicely revives the concept of Kafka black comedy.

The problem not being genuine evil so much as the bureaucracy being circularly self-reinforcing.

In the end, she only got a "serious" hearing after major magazines covered her ordeal.

I meant now. Sue the fuck out of him. I have no idea how much money she has on hand versus whatever money her father siphoned off her. But it really does sound like a case against him.

I mean, she's not 100% free even now. She only recently got her father to agree to leave her conservatorship and that required a multimillion dollar payoff.

If I was literally a prisoner of the guy for 13 years, I'd probably be terrified of him.

Edit:

Apparently she's requested an investigation of her father's handling of her finances due to the fact she has 40 million dollars after decades of work. Notably, Taylor Swift has 280 million dollars and doesn't own most of her music.

Doubly ironic given Jaime says she was wasting her money.

All it would take is a handful of lawyers and accountants to find that truth.

To me it sounds like Britney has far more to gain to get this fixed then just leave it alone.

Yeah well, it looks a lot easier from where you stand.

Now imagine what happens to all the people, especially women, who don't have an entire multi-year media campaign on their side but are in similarly exploitative conservatorships. .-. This is why I push for getting rid of the entire mechanism.

I feel at the very least a mechanism to say, "If they are coherent enough to ask for an end to the conservatorship then they are able to petition to have it ended."

I agree. There's something I'm not understanding about a c'ship because this seems a very blatant cease of inalienable rights being suspended for someone who's allowed or even just physically capable of performing packed concert halls.

You had me at "I trust the US court system". Is it hard to find floppy oversized shoes and white greasepaint these days?

I mean how are you so determined to find the most unsympathetic standpoints on so many issues?
The US court system is good and reasonable, and I trust those adults in the room - unless they're pro coughid measures of course, in which case they're going insane / making a powergrab against all our freedoms.
