Good news! Stores in the UK are finally able to fill up their shelves again...

...with cardboard-cutouts of the wares that should be in that shelf.

Can't say I've noticed them being particularly empty.

Right. Sure.

Meanwhile, Tesco is leaving Finland and the french chain Carrefour expands into the gap left behind.

Oh and good news as well! The UK found some people who are willing to become and work as HGV-drivers! Downside is, most of these people were bus-drivers and now there's a bus-driver shortage in the UK in addition to the ongoing shortage of HGV-drivers.

And already there are signs of pressure for wage increases. Terrible thing, people getting paid more!

I wonder how long it'll be before someone chimes in with the "but therefore things will cost more so it's better if poor people remain badly paid." I guess the same argument was used to defend slavery.

Except that rising wages aren't solving the basic issue of not having enough manpower.

There is a worldwide shortage of HGV drivers, its not a UK thing nor a Brexit thing.
Fact is that kids today don't want to work those hours, for that pay, for that lack of cred.

This is how the labour market works. Look back in time to the Black Death, where afterwards things improved significantly for most people due to there being "not enough" manpower. A "shortage" of labour issue is beneficial for the majority.

I put "shortage" in quotes due to how little labour is actually required these days to do all the basics and essentials (just look how many people are occupied in farming these days).
