Yeah but what's with the Al Bundy avatar?McAvoy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 6:29 am Cogenitors you would think of as a protected sex if you need them but 3% of the population is them. I could easily see a quasi religion due to them.
Never made sense to me that they are the second class citizens.
Actually would make for a different episode if it was the other way around. That they are the ones in power.

I use him for all my avatars on boards. You see a poster with AL Bundy and McAvoy that would be me.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 6:14 pmYeah but what's with the Al Bundy avatar?McAvoy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 6:29 am Cogenitors you would think of as a protected sex if you need them but 3% of the population is them. It's precisely because they are so vitally necessary that they would be denied autonomy and power. No one would tolerate a 'strike', so their ability to choose would be denied.
Lois McMaster Bujold once made the point that the tasks women traditionally perform are hideously expensive if you hire someone to do them. It is precisely because women's work is so valuable that they're expected to do it free - no one could afford it if they had to actually pay, so instead the debt is simply ignored.

I like that last point you made because its true. Which AGAIN demonstrates the wasted potential of Enterprise.Frustration wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 11:41 pm It's precisely because they are so vitally necessary that they would be denied autonomy and power. Bringing this back to the actual thread for a moment, the alternate aesop of the ''Trip gets pregnant episode'' appears to be: male rape is funny.
But if you get beyond that, imagine for a moment that they actually went through with it. That Trip had to juggle a baby and work for a season. I'm just saying that they could have done something with that. He could have been O'Brien but without a wife. (Although even Red Dwarf shelved their pregnant man episode which just goes to show how often latter-day Trek was outstripped by a British sitcom.)

As is the case with all my points!

Which itself is a cliche. Man becomes pregnant is funny.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 7:20 amI like that last point you made because its true. Though having Trip raise a baby on his own would be refreshing I think it would still suffer from the whole 'Daddy doesn't know what he is doing'

It's not as though women instinctively know how to care for infants, either.

Fathers have always been protrayed as the lesser of the two parents. Moms being more important, knowing what's best etc.Frustration wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 8:18 pm It's not as though women instinctively know how to care for infants, either.

Women produce breast milk. And they can be relatively certain that the child is genetically related to them. Those are the only two advantages women have over men when it comes to child care.

Pretty much and at least when it comes to milk it can be replaced with formula.Frustration wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 4:29 pm Women produce breast milk. Just annoying to see the cliche Dads don't know what they are doing, Dads are clueless.
