Yes, but if people mostly only use the one-star and five-star responses, you might as well replace the stars with a like/dislike system. And given that most people are morons, the number who will put any thought into the precise star value they should use will be small - there will be little benefit from allowing those values.
I simply wouldn't use YouTube, except it's such a great way to *find* new things, and many creators don't have the resources necessary to host them elsewhere. Things like Patreon help, but I won't use them, so it's not an option for me. Ergo, I'm pretty much stuck using YouTube, even if only indirectly. Since the mechanisms that feed their algorithms also give money back to the creators, I even use things like the Like buttons. But I go out of my way to ensure that the data is as useless as possible for them.
I'll have to think of yet another way to punish them for their corruption, this time.

Re: Youtube removes the dislike button
When was this supposed to happen? I have yet to see a video with no dislike count.

The dislike button is still there, you just can't see the numbers anymore.
Truthfully, they should get rid of view counts and the like counts. Leave everyone in the dark. Why is it important that anyone else sees how many views a video got? It's not theirs.

I start to agree, but it does seem antithetical to the interactivity custom of social media.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 11:30 am The dislike button is still there, you just can't see the numbers anymore.

Youtube being at the front of social media is pretty peculiar in that it is largely showcasing yourself through video while the text engagement is a lot more disparate and not networked at all. It was always like that, but the idea of general user accounts with boards went away a while ago too.
..What mirror universe?

Re: Youtube removes the dislike button
I don't think they ever got rid of the dislike button, they simply got rid of the dislike COUNT. But because of that alone it caused this much of a stir that websites put out clickbait articles that say "DISLIKE BUTTON GONE" and then clarify in the article that you can still hit dislike, it's just not going to show the counter.
I honestly think it's hilarious how BUTTHURT certain people are that the count is gone. OH NO!!! They can't rally up a bunch dislike counts on the new CAPTAIN MARVEL trailer! BOO FUCKING HOO!! Poor fandom menace can't show their hatred anymore.
So now it's gonna come down to how many likes a video gets compared to others.

Did you screenshot that from an app on a phone?
Re: Youtube removes the dislike button
No, desktop. I checked on my phone this morning and I also saw a dislike count too. So I'm left wondering if they changed their mind or something.

That's bizarre.
Because I'm on my desktop now and I actually searched the video you posted as an example, and I don't see a count on there.
What kind of desktop is yours? Mine's Windows.
