Re: Is Ariel and the Beast's Story's An Allegory for Transgender
The original Little Mirmaid is an allegory for Hans Christian Andersen's inability to confess his romantic love for a male friend of his. So while not necessarily a trans allegory (only about 10% of bi people are trans) it is a queer allegory. Even though the Disney version changes quite a lot, the longing for a love one thinks can never be is there, so there are going to be some elements that remain of the queer story that was written.

That's not exactly an exclusively gender-queer thing though, but a rather universal experience.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 5:48 pmEven though the Disney version changes quite a lot, the longing for a love one thinks can never be is there, so there are going to be some elements that remain of the queer story that was written.

Hey can you recommend a source for that? I've seen a lot of studies that a disproportionate number of trans people are bi/pan, but this is he first I've heard it goes the other way too. I'm not finding anything on Google but don't really know what to look for either.

Re: Is Ariel and the Beast's Story's An Allegory for Transgender
I gotta ask this because I really do not have any knowledge at all about the transpeople and sexuality: At what point is a transperson considered heterosexual and not gay? As in, i'm a man who likes women, therefore I am hetero. If I was to discover that i was trans, would I still be hetero or would I technically be a lesbian?
I guess what i'm asking is: At what point does my sexuality change along with my gender? The moment I realise that I am trans, the moment that I come out as trans, or the moment that I get the op? Or is it just the label I choose to be?
The answer to this would seem to directly influence the answer to the question regarding how many transpeople are bi as it seems to me that someone in the ''between'' state (if there is one) could be considered bi and not strictly hetero or gay. Similarly if its just a label, then ''how many transpeople are bi'' is a meaningless question because there is no actual answer if you can just choose what to be.

"Bi" means that you are interested in more than one gender. If you were only interested in women and you're still only interested in women you're not bi. If the same woman is still interested in you than she is probably bi.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 9:37 pm I gotta ask this because I really do not have any knowledge at all about the transpeople and sexuality: At what point is a transperson considered heterosexual and not gay? It's simple. If you are a man who only likes women, you are straight. If you transition to a woman and still like only women, you are now a lesbian. Because you identify as a woman.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 9:37 pm I gotta ask this because I really do not have any knowledge at all about the transpeople and sexuality: At what point is a transperson considered heterosexual and not gay? So yes, when your gender changes, your label of sexuality changes as well.
I got nothing to say here.

It's mostly a matter of statistics. About half of trans people are bi/pan and regardless of generation about 5 times the number of people identify as bi/pan that identity as transgender. This means about 10 percent of all bi people are trans. It's also not uncommon for both straight and gay trans people to identify as bi before transitioning. For straight trans people it's usually the result of conflating gender envy with attraction, for gay trans people it's usually that they feel gay but are primary attracted to thier own gender/the sex opposite thier agab.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 8:32 pmHey can you recommend a source for that?
