I wonder if this is a build up to something much bigger.

That's how Native Americans have pretty much always been portrayed in fiction, though? And some "history" as I was taught in grade school, come to think of it. The Savage Indian selfishly holding onto territory that real people could be using and unreasonably resisting the civilizing benefits of killing them and taking all their stuff. It's blatantly and deeply racist but it's baked in to the whole western genre and westward expansion mythology.

Yeah, and people still act like we somehow did a benefit.

Not originally. This is why their brief scene in The Phantom Menace is them sitting off half enjoying the pod race as it goes by, half taking pot shots at the pod racers.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 4:51 amOr maybe they are Native American equivalents.Beastro wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 11:29 pmI can see making Fett an anti-hero, but he's coming off too much hero and not enough anti. It's the usual pattern with peoples no differently than the fringes of Celts that lay beyond that of Britannia left unconquered by the Anglo-Saxons and Irish in Yr Hen Ogledd. Same with every place where one people move into an area and drive others away creating a new center and margin in the area.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 6:10 pm That's how Native Americans have pretty much always been portrayed in fiction, though? Or maybe they're a mix of several cultures that is occasionally retooled by different writer, being a fictional culture and all.Beastro wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 6:14 pmNot originally. I think Tuscan raiders were supposed to be more like urban transients, on a more city street basis, kind of like the Kazon being inspired by LA gangs.

I was genuinely surprised Taika Waititi was not involved in episode 4. The whole scene with the kitchen droids just felt like his brand of humor.

Re: Book of Boba Fett Thread
To be fair to Western mythologizing and even Westerners at the time of the period, there's always been at least some writers and people in the world around them that realized the Native Americans were getting shat on. Mind you, Temura Morrison has also been pretty clear that he saw parallels between the Native American inspired Tuskens and his own people (who he's done much to teach about) so the whole "Dances with Raiders" thing is heavily influenced by him.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 6:10 pm That's how Native Americans have pretty much always been portrayed in fiction, though? For all of the Dances with Wolves plots' problems, the stories are coming from a place of trying to represent native peoples as people worth learnibng from.
