Yeah because media is consolidated into fewer and fewer hands as a direct result of capitalism. Our choices are ever shrinking because antitrust laws are either not enforced or woefully inadequate at addressing IP related trusts.clearspira wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:02 amThe idea that its possible to not give money to Disney is laughable.Frustration wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:27 pmThey have no ideological concerns other than what sells. Not sure what your point is. Edward Norton would probably in that case have to blow up both Google and Amazon and Microsoft as well now.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 7:33 pmThe only real difference that cloud data would bring would that it would have to be Google, Amazon, or Microsoft's servers rather than the credit card company's servers. Because ultimately cloud computing is just renting someone else's hardware and interacting with it over the internet.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 3:57 pm Edward Norton's job in the movie was an automobile recall specialist. The movie showed his job entailing how various, often dire, circumstances of automobiles miraculously combusting etc... So his forensic capabilities involving electronics and raw combustibles was probably astute enough to be able to learn just what we see in the garage basement of the building.
The long term goal in 1999 is more believable than in 2022 with cloud data. No doubt though that taking out headquarters of multiple credit card companies right next to each other was going to have a pronounced effect on the national credit infrastructure. The credit card industry alone dwarfs the housing market, so the amount of data being demolished in such a disparately networked though all encompassing financial framework is quite compelling for a story narrative.
Cloud data commonly understood to be a lot more secure than dedicated on-site data storage.

I'm at a loss as to what your real understanding is with regard to how socialist and capitalistic principles work.

Well yeah, because the security of the data is a primary concern of a company running cloud computing in the way it isn't fod a company that has to maintain a database as an incidental part of thier business.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 1:14 amNot sure what your point is. I think it's interesting that Tyler Durden cancels himself out. Maybe even also that the movie leaves one building standing. The story ends on a philosophical questioning of whether Durden is right that knocking out the credit infrastructure would lead to consumer instinct behavior as he depicted, or if collective will would prevail to maintain civic frameworks. I'm more inclined to think that he's written specifically as a character who bets wrong in spite of his charisma.
