I mean probably because they wanted something to draw in audiences that didn't want to watch another Superman show. I watch this show because it's something that's never been done before with the franchise.

I get it. Supergirl did take away from the Superman Lore in the beginning. They already established this Superman is a veteran and been around for awhile.

But Smallville went off the air over 10 years ago and that wasn't a true Superman series and well over 20-25 years since Dean Cain series. I guess the Henry Cavill Superman is still too fresh in people's minds would have been a big factor too.
