In a way, he might not be wrong in a very literal sense, though perhaps not the way he meant it; with the Disney in particular seeing Disney Plus as a license to print more money by charging premium on top of premium - and getting away with it, becase of aforementioned consolidation - the days where it is possible to run a cinema may, like town centre shopping centres (at least in th UK) be increasingly numbered.
My local cinema did not survive lockdown, notably.

Re: Rowan Emmerich says MCU is killing Cinema
He's actually not really being a Martin Scorsese as much as an Ethan Hawke. Hell, Martin Scorsese might not be being a Martin Scorsese, but he is more so a filmmaker than Ethan Hawke is, which adds a natural gravitas to his sentiments, undue or not.
Emmerich is being pretty straight forward with his personal indifference on the matter and isn't really judging them on a film quality basis, just the conceptual narration that takes a more fantastical form.
I've ran into plenty of people that are indifferent to caped crusaders, and even Steve Shives had a video inclusive of him talking about how not seriously he's able to take it.

Unfortunately there's not a lot that he does take seriously. I like his content more often than not, but his inability to care (except in berating people for caring) eventually wore thin.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 7:44 pm I've ran into plenty of people that are indifferent to caped crusaders, and even Steve Shives had a video inclusive of him talking about how not seriously he's able to take it.

I've looked at some MauLer videos recently, and he also talks about this "Abrams cool stuff" in a cynical way;Beastro wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 7:21 pmThere's a different between those and this churned out tripe. This is little different than the predominance of comic books now in libraries that have increasing shrinking catalogues of actual literature.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 6:18 pm None of them, of course, blame Lucas and/or Speilburg for starting the ball rolling with works like Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Must be the children who are wrong.
Spielberg and Lucas had something to their works. Even the Prequels did and weren't just filled with Awesome Button Abrams crap.
so is this some kind of trending criticism type of the recent times, the notion that awesome/cool stuff is bad and "crap" and Abrams is somehow the main "culprit" of this?
Like was the Starkiller scene too impressive, do things need to be more understated or sth, what's the main point there lol?

Srs though in the video he's actually grey about it. He's pretty enthused about Batman and I believe he starts talking to his friend about such ridiculous nuances, inclusive of the outfit.
The bigger issue I think though was the adolescent sidekick.

Media consolidation seems to be the last of 3 things attacking cinema next to studio investment in safe, pg-13, reliable works, and the pandemic that made everybody scared to sit down in an uncirculated room.
Then again, the push for Disney + might have been a speculation that MCU had tapped the potential limits of theaters for the sake of one parent studio.

The heavy investment in safe pg-13 works is a direct result of media consolidation.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 5:00 pm Media consolidation seems to be the last of 3 things attacking cinema next to studio investment in safe, pg-13, reliable works, and the pandemic that made everybody scared to sit down in an uncirculated room.

For reals though can we do a breakdown of consolidation? I probably was wrong with it a bit (and I weally am sowwy). But I was mostly just thinking of a studio having to do a complete package of movies + streaming + etc. in the form of tie-ins of any sort in order to get the complete picture.
Like Star Wars has been doing this forever with their shows, games, and books. It's consolidated media. But it was far from necessary or trendy. Matrix tried it and it was the most mixed bag ever.
The whole pg-13 bumper alley is directly hand in hand with preestablished reliable works. You want to not scare off your audience? PG-13. You want them to buy the ticket before the trailer comes out? Base it on something established.
I'm just personally thinking that the safety system is different from having streaming and game tie-ins, and wasn't an issue in itself until Marvel coincidentally did it right along with the safetyisms.

There is that, and also the fact that there's like only three mega-companies left, owning everything.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 10:34 pm For reals though can we do a breakdown of consolidation?
