I'm really interested in where they're taking the franchise. The first movie was fine, but it's amusing to me how much it feels like a direct remake of the original movie compared to this.
I also liked the second one more than the first, but really can't remember how it tonally fits with the preestablished theme of the franchise.
This is the Empire Strikes Back of Jurassic Park.

Jurassic World Dominion
..What mirror universe?
Re: Jurassic World Dominion
Jurassic Park in itself was such a great movie that all others just fail at it.
Jurassic World trilogy is still trying that. Just under a new name.
Jurassic Park was just new with its effects and a nice story to go along with it. Nowadays you can create anything CGI and look nearly 100% realistic. It loses that charm.
Think about the terror of the T Rex escaping in the first movie and attacking the kids vehicle. Then compare that to other scenes in the newer movies. One is iconic and the others were not.

I got nothing to say here.
Re: Jurassic World Dominion
Jurassic World films feel like some high-budgeted Disney original films. Their biggest sin is they rely too much on idiot ball to drive the plot forwards, moreso than the original trilogy.
Though at least in the original, whenever something stupid happened it was either funny or didn't affect the plot that much (the sudden stupid chasm from the first film and the boat ghost ninja T-Rex from the second are so ridiculous they're funny, but the incompetent guards and the "using the laser attached to a gun to kill the enemy not by shooting it but by summoning a killer-raptor" from the first two films is just too cringe to be funny). The films are nice eye candy, I'll give 'em that, but the story and the characters are so forgettable it hurts.
So I don't expect the third to be any different.

Meh I don't think the original was good just because it blended cgi and practical better than what ever may come (and before it as well). I personally think the story was crafted to the same caliber as ESB now that I think about it... So I'm somewhat rendering my original comment regarding ESB redundant, but yeah that's just more strength to the original really considering it wasn't a follow up, which is more the point of comparing it to this one.
Buuut, just with regard to that last comment, I just think that this third installment looks considerably different from the first two. And considerably more than JW is to JP.
That's rather succinct on my regard between the original movie and anything else that followed. Respectfully, I liked Lost World because I thought it was a decent plot for the universe premise, and I didn't feel it was shameless or anything. The Rex in San Diego was kind of neither here nor there, but it doesn't overstay its welcome and did add to the experience of the original somewhat (not to suggest you were talking about that).Mabus wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 5:46 pm Jurassic World films feel like some high-budgeted Disney original films. Re: Jurassic World Dominion
I saw the trailer last night during the Super Bowl. In the end apparently there is a bigger dinosaur. A Super T-Rex maybe.
Problem for me is even if the trailer looks great, the previous two movies did not impress me. I did like the first JW, not so with JW2.
I may end up seeing it in theaters. Just because movies like this needs to be on the big screen and not my 55" with stock speakers.

Interesting. The bigger dinosaur I don't really mind. I'm fine with its development across films resembling a heavyweight boxing crown.McAvoy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 5:06 am I saw the trailer last night during the Super Bowl. In the end apparently there is a bigger dinosaur. A Super T-Rex maybe.

Like I said; I liked JW, but breaking that down, the story direction didn't take things much past the original, except for adding new ideas like Blue. They also bring back around and inject the corrupt oversight, which was brought in by the second JP movie, but not so overt in the original I believe.
The premise of this movie seems distanced from either the mold of the original film or their less received plot-driven sequels.

Re: Jurassic World Dominion
The only reason for having these movies was to properly go into the darker aspects of the genetic engineering that didn't make it into the first film from the novel. The only thing I enjoyed from Wu in the JW was him touching on what he wasn't allowed to say from the novel: these aren't even dinosaurs, they're just things made to look like them that are a cocktail of different bits of genetic material to pass our superficial desires.
That's not what the movies are about, though.
