Florida Government censors discussion of queerness in schools

This is for topical issues effecting our fair world... you can quit snickering anytime. Note: It is the desire of the leadership of SFDebris Conglomerate that all posters maintain a civil and polite bearing in this forum, regardless of how you feel about any particular issue. Florida Government censors discussion of queerness in schools

This is what actual censorship looks like. It's not when you get deplatformed from a podcast provider or banned from twitter for saying slurs. It's when the government suppresses topics they don't like.

Yep pretty much. Too many think they can say whatever they want on any platform without repercussions.

Take for example, here. Or any forum. No different than Twitter or Facebook.

Totally different when the government does it.
I got nothing to say here.

So, yeah, what is the discussion of queerness specifically in schools? I could be wrong, but it's not ringing a bell for me much past sex ed specific class segments.

Wrong. Those are also examples of censorship.

It doesn't become 'censorship' when you disapprove of it.

No.

A company 'censoring' sometjing or someone is not like the government doing it. No matter how much you disapprove of that company doing it.

I suppose you feel that when Reality was banned here you thought that was censorship?

Yes or no.

That gets complicated when government officials have been calling on companies to remove certain people or ban particular information, especially under threat of legislative or regulatory action, and the the companies comply.

What Florida is doing is creating regulations for how government employees may behave in the course of performing their jobs, which the state government has authority to do. This has been interaction to activist educators pushing the boundaries of what are acceptable classroom discussions and materials, as well as interactions with students hidden from parents.
A managed democracy is a wonderful thing... for the managers... and its greatest strength is a 'free press' when 'free' is defined as 'responsible' and the managers define what is 'irresponsible'.”

The thing about censorship is that most of the time the government doesn't need to censor anything. Society often does a good job of censoring itself, either through economic pressures or simple prejudice.

Freedom of speech protects you from the government, not from Josh. Twitter and spotify have no ability to actually stop you from saying anything, they just aren't obligated to provide a platform for you to say it on.

...and when they decide not to allow things to be said, it's censorship. Private entities can censor. I didn't say a thing about "freedom of speech".
