I was really hoping we would not see Kirk at all until the end of the series when Pike leaves the Enterprise.CMWaters wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 3:42 am So, Paul Wesley from "The Vampire Diaries" is being cast for the second season of the show (because of course they already have a second season planned.

I got nothing to say here.

While Pike is confirmed for Season 2, maybe that's the transition season (since they can only go so long before Pike ends up getting promoted to embrace his fate)?McAvoy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 4:29 amI was really hoping we would not see Kirk at all until the end of the series when Pike leaves the Enterprise.CMWaters wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 3:42 am So, Paul Wesley from "The Vampire Diaries" is being cast for the second season of the show (because of course they already have a second season planned.

Either way this just makes me wonder who will be the next TOS main character to get a third actor. So far Spock, Uhura, and when this season airs Kirk have gotten that treatment.

Same. I've been really excited about this show (perhaps the most), and teasing Kirk before it's even aired has completely tanked my interest. What a show of no confidence in themselves.
It's a terrific way to undermine the new show before it's begun.
Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
The fact that they're already bringing in Kirk make me think TPTB aren't that's certain of the quality of the show and they're trying to compensate for any shortcomings.

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
I'm curious how they will handle his boarding on the Enterprise compared to '09 Trek.
..What mirror universe?
Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
I am not going to jump the gun on making assumptions before the series even airs its first episode. For all we know, Kirk may just appear in a few episodes to help the Enterprise while being assigned to a different ship.
Or we can assume the show automatically sucks. And nitpick the hell out of each episode on everything we don't like because reasons.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Well, I was pretty unreservedly excited before this. And you're right, it could be nothing, but it's still something and I'm annoyed that they're even making me less interested in the show. Not sure why PR people like to do that, but they do it with irritating frequency. It feels like a stunt, similar to Discovery's S1 cliffhanger, that's all, and stunts dampen enthusiasm.
Like, I wish they'd leave well enough alone and let the show stand for itself, ya know? I dunno. At least we don't have to wait long! Aside from the Midnight Bridge I expect many of us will be loving this one in a month.

It is a PR stunt. There is no reason to announce that.Deledrius wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 3:30 am Well, I was pretty unreservedly excited before this. It brings in so many questions about Kirk and the nature of the show itself before it even airs a single episode.
Like I said this could just be a setup for Pike to nominate Kirk to Starfleet to be the next captain after viewing him in action.
Or Kirk somehow ends up on Enterprise as a crewmember. Creates a forced friendship with Spock and Pike, maybe some weird rivalry with Number One.
Or we could go the full route of anything anti-Disco Era fans and say this Kirk is woke as fuck.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
I generally ignore that. There might be a point to it but overall I just don't care that much about it.
Like I said I am going to wait until I see at least a few episodes before I start to give some sort of judgment.
I am sure there will be people who will continue their hatred of Disco Trek with this one too. Looking for every little nitpick or thing that annoys them.
