Disney, as an entertainment company that operates in a lot of different media, struggle to safely be all things to all parts and sub-parts of their audience.

No, they just underestimated how popular the fashion for superficial LGBTQ+ statements has become.

Considering not even twenty years ago you could still virtue signal by trash talking LGBTQ+ people (and Conservative politicians still do it which is all this bill is this), same thing.

I remember when there was serious discussion of a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.

You'll notice there's been no constitutional amendment ensuring gay marriage, either.

Eh, not like the people against it have the slightest respect for rule of law anyway.

Yeah but actual attacks on gay rights have been minimal as suddenly same-sex marriage became mainstream and normalized, where before it was illegal. Even most of the anti-LGBTQ attacks these days tend to go after Trans people in an attempt to divide and conquer.

The attempts to secure "gay rights" have also dramatically decreased. There used to be people who insisted that state-approved same-sex marriages weren't enough, federal recognition of state-accepted marriages wasn't enough, we needed federal mandates and constitutional amendments.

I am reminded of all the anti-war rhetoric in the Vietnam era... which disappeared once people stopped being drafted into the military.

Pretty much no one in American politics has the slightest regard for the rule of law, unless they're about to use it as a weapon to punish their enemies. I can't speak as to what it's like in other nations.

Nah, that both-sides thing is just a lie the conservative media likes to repeat. You know, the same people spreading the "Nazis were Socialists" lie. Democrats are if anything TOO bound to laws and traditions, to the point they can't adequately respond to Republicans actively trying to burn the whole thing down.
