The videos I saw, I feel Smith's mouth was laughing while he smacked Rock and while turning around, only regaining composure while walking back. Besides, I'd expect Rock's reaction to be more confuzzled and more physical, if smacked with force by someone the stature of Smith. Staged as fuck.
If it was just a slap than i might even agree. BUT, when he sat back down, he dropped the F-Bomb on live network TV. That is a big no-no.
If this is staged, this is the most ill conceived stunt since Janet Jackson's boob.
Let's not for get that Will Smith is an action star, and Chris Rock is a comedian. Will Smith is also a comedian too, but I digress. This whole post is a digression also.

Breaking "protocol" and "good etiquette" in order to shock and create controversy? Yeah, how could I even conclude that from anything that has happened in the past...

I'm saying the word "thug" has some racist connotations but keeping digging that hole I guess?
Wow. What a world you live in. In the past it angered me but now all I feel is pity. Between this and hammerofglass interpreting Chuck's mention of "very conservative in-laws" in the review of Rejoined as "bigots" because she "hasn't seen that phrase used to mean anything else in a decade or so" it makes me realize how truly and deeply screwed the Anglo-Saxon culture got in the last few years - since you can't use basic words - simple words that I've learnt during my English lessons decades ago when I was first studying the language as an outsider - without immediately getting a hostile reaction from a contemporary American because suddenly the simple straight-forward word for a bad-guy "thug" has "racist connotations"
How did you all get there and how can you be fine with it? I'll never understand. Just like I don't understand Russians dividing alphabets on "Our alphabet vs. American alphabet" (they're talking about Latin alphabet that the whole western world uses ofc). All I can say is that I'm slowly getting used to it when interacting with the US people just like I got used to it with Russians. Although I feel sorry for both. Guess it was fun while it lasted and I should be thankful I got to live in the 80's and 90's.
Oh and as for Will Smith - honestly think it was a stunt. If it wasn't - wow. Not saying what he did was right - it wasn't and he should be punished for committing a crime on camera - but I'm glad to see that at least some men in the US are willing to do the wrong things for the right reasons even if they don't have the courage to stand by their actions and feel the need to immediately apologize. Better than nothing.
