I'm saying the word "thug" has some racist connotations but keeping digging that hole I guess?
Wow. What a world you live in. In the past it angered me but now all I feel is pity. Between this and hammerofglass interpreting Chuck's mention of "very conservative in-laws" in the review of Rejoined as "bigots" because he "hasn't seen that phrase used to mean anything else in a decade or so" it makes me realize how truly and deeply screwed the Anglo-Saxon culture got in the last few years - since you can't use basic words - simple words that I've learnt during my English lessons decades ago when I was first studying the language as an outsider - without immediately getting a hostile reaction from a contemporary American because suddenly the simple straight-forward word for a bad-guy "thug" has "racist connotations"
Americans live in a culture full of white nationalist anti-feminists who speak exclusively in an overlapping mix of euphemisms, dog whistles, and outright lies. The whole point of which is that they know what they're saying, and you know what they're saying, but you try to explain it to a third party you sound like a lunatic. Believe me, we know how stupid it is.

Are you suggesting that there are not diverse feminists who speak exclusively in an overlapping mix of euphemisms, dog whistles, and outright lies? Or is it just that their agendas are being worn openly on their sleeve?
This is a genuine question btw as it has to be one or the other. Frankly, having spent many years in Youtube comment sections, on forums and in Twitter threads, I can quite conclusively say that both the Left and the Right treat the other side as subhuman filth that is simultaneously all-powerful and nefarious enough to have multiple intricate plans going on to strip ''The People'' of their freedoms.
Whilst we are on the subject, I will note that the word ''thug'' in Britain is one of the most common descriptive terms for a violent criminal there is. It is used by everyone in every form of media and setting imaginable. I do not feel like stopping to use such a commonplace word because someone in the US has deemed it racist any more than you should stop using the ''OK'' hand gesture because in Brazil it means asshole.

Real quick tell me where being a cis straight man is an actual crime. Tell me where seeking the basic medial care that a cis man needs is illegal. Tell me where seeking it for a little cis boy is legally child abuse. Hell, thanks to Florida the line now is tell me where acknowledging straight cis men even exist is an actual crime. Not a hypothetical, as a real thing in the real world backed up by armed officers with state sanction.

Some world cultures have a belief in 'witches', attributing undesirable outcomes to the active intervention of malevolent, all-powerful yet simultaneously safe-to-persecute opponents. American culture is complex and draws on many sources, but it's worth noting that it was founded by such a "witch culture".

Or the thumbs-up gesture despite it being "flipping the bird" in Australia.
But if we don't comply with every faddish demand for arbitrary behaviors, how will we demonstrate we're part of the in-crowd? And how will the in-crowd demonstrate its diva power? Demanding that people carefully remove all the brown M&Ms because consuming them denotes disrespect for former slaves? Come now, that's just unreasonable.

In America perhaps. The only hole to be found is with your culture which is full of weird shit that is apparantly racist but a Brit wouldnt blink twice at. I've heard US lefties try to make out that it is racist to suggest that black people eat watermelon or chicken ffs.
Well it seems relevant because Will Smith and Chris Rock are both Americans and the incident occured in America.
If you reflected for a few minutes, you might realize that there is more racially charged language and a different context for race relations in american culture for a reason.
As for watermelon and chicken, it's not "lefties", it's anyone who is reasonably aware of racial stereotypes in this country. Doesn't Britain have it's own stereotypes to deal with?

How did you all get there and how can you be fine with it? I'll never understand. Just like I don't understand Russians dividing alphabets on "Our alphabet vs. American alphabet" (they're talking about Latin alphabet that the whole western world uses ofc). All I can say is that I'm slowly getting used to it when interacting with the US people just like I got used to it with Russians. Although I feel sorry for both. Guess it was fun while it lasted and I should be thankful I got to live in the 80's and 90's.
Oh and as for Will Smith - honestly think it was a stunt. If it wasn't - wow. Not saying what he did was right - it wasn't and he should be punished for committing a crime on camera - but I'm glad to see that at least some men in the US are willing to do the wrong things for the right reasons even if they don't have the courage to stand by their actions and feel the need to immediately apologize. Better than nothing.
Language has nuance and context that Eng101 doesn't always cover. Listen and learn.

Oh yes Master! Please patronize me more. My poor uneducated ass barely passed the Cambridge English: Advanced Qualifications on A. I know nothing of English language Master. I promise to learn from your great mind as you enlighten me with your great American culture! I'm as giddily waiting for it as those poor folks in India when Great Britain brought them "culture and enlightenment" in the good ol' days. Yes yes I have so much to learn
