Even without that case, there's plenty of other known sexual predators that the academy has not kicked out.

It just goes to show that cancel culture is real. Make a mistake in front of everybody and it's adios compadre.

We're not talking about some Tweet from ten years ago. We're talking about punching a man at the Oscars. You can kill a man with a single punch y'know.

And hey, despite my strong language throughout this thread, I wish he hadn't done it. I wish that we were talking about his first Oscar win right now (and Samuel L Jackson's first win too whilst we are on the subject. I feel so sorry for him. The best night of his life completely overshadowed.) I wish that today I could still think of him as the man who provided the movie, TV and musical soundtrack of my childhood. But I cannot. Maybe it was ''just a mistake''. A heat of the moment thing. But he has disappointed me and he has disappointed millions of other people.

And for what? The love of a woman who publicly told the world on a TV interview that Will is unable to satisfy her in bed? The love of a woman who has had multiple affairs? The love of the woman who made NO EFFORT to hold her husband back when he was about to make the most catastrophic mistake of his life?

And yet that has not much to do with what we're talking about. Nobody is under the impression that Smith was of the emotional inclination to endanger Rock any much more than he did.

You want, you want, you want. Touching. You want him to be punished on other people's behalf. Shan't we carry this conversation to another thread I have in mind? That is, if it's still open and unlocked.

I think it's understandable that, by terms of engaged physical conflict, the love of a woman is hardly justifiable basis for consideration. So don't get me wrong there. The idea that the emotional basis is just beyond consideration on a personal level is just as gravely unfounded. Further, value judgements placed upon him that prominently reflect your approval of him on a general basis don't have much bearing on the matter, at least given the measure of any lasting damage actually levied.

I won't argue, we have different opinions, but all I will say is, I think there is a very big difference between "cancel culture" and "concequence culture". The latter is what Will has run afoul of.

And ultimately, Will Smith is a celebrity. His job is to impress me. And he has gotten very rich, very powerful, and very far in life on being a celebrity. My emotional response to him is justified.

Well whatever it is, he certainly walked into it deliberately. And I don't mean to state the obvious. He has a very reserved persona compared to other celebrities and definitely veered closer to the artistic corner of commercial media than the entertainment.

Well that's interesting in that how this whole thing has been seen is an utter relevant factor in how different people are responding to this. It's an interesting situation where like 87% of the structured reactions have some rather slanted oversight for consideration.
