Halo Infinite

Okay, I finally got around to playing around with HALO INFINITE and once I turned off the Linear Navigation mode and could actually use the interface (why is that set to default?), I had a lot of fun with it. I am also someone who is back and forth of my opinion on the story because I absolutely love it and also feel bad for the developers.

Because this is the second time it feels like they had to ditch the entirety of their story plans (Didact and Cortana) to having them dealt with off screen. However, the way they did trash their in-story actually felt good and poignant.

1. The Weapon dealing with Original Recipe Cortana's going crazy.
2. Cortana actually going full Tarkin was a legitimate way of making her terrifying.
3. The Spartan IV's all being wiped out felt meaningful even though a lot of fans (myself included) thought they were lame rip-offs even in universe.
4. The Ark of Infinity being destroyed actually invoked some feeling even if I kind of hope Lansky and Palmer both went down with it.

It felt very back to basics but in a way that acknowledged what came before. The problem being Back to Basics is, "Back to fighting the Not-Covenant because that's who we wanted in the first place."

I mean it's great but it's kind of a definite, "You tried something new and the new just wasn't as good."

The problem with this game is not the plot, its the threadbare ''live service'' that has delivered an incomplete product. Being the old man that I am I remember Halo 2 and 3. Classic, complete, amazingly fun games that imo piss all over this offering - and its not just Halo either. Battlefield 4 is 100% better than Battlefield 2042. Modern Warfare 2 is 100% better than Cold War.

Modern FPS shooters are terrible compared to what they were ten years ago. Maybe I would even argue that they are worse than they were 30 years ago. Doom and Quake are still going strong today, thanks largely to their vibrant speed running and modding communities. No one is going to be playing today's FPS games in 2052 I promise you that.

I don't think we can say what anyone will be doing in 2052. The neural uplink option will really improve gameplay, and also people will be desperate to distract themselves from the upcoming collapse of global ecosystems and imminent extinction of humanity.

Okay, clearspira, we disagree about literally EVERYTHING but you're fucking with me now, right?

Halo 2 was NOT complete.

It is in fact INFAMOUSLY not-complete. It caused the internet to break because everyone was so pissed off that they didn't finish the game and made a cliffhanger ending where they moved the latter part of the game to Halo 3.

This is like saying, "The ending sucked! It's not at all like Mass Effect 3."

A cliffhanger that made Halo 3 one of the best and fastest selling FPS games of all time, matched only by COD which at the time was insanely popular.

Worked.
Beautifully.

Modern Halo can only dream of such popularity.
